gonna do my 2500mile service myself. searched the "how to" threads and cant exactly find what type of oil to put back in the dog. my local dealer said to put:

20-50 mineral oil- engine
80-90 synthetic- primary
dextron 4- transmission

does this all sound right? any suggestions? thanks in advance.

You do not need to change the primary or trans fluid yet. Usually 5000 miles for that. Run the 20-50 of your choice. i use Amsoil but a lot of guys use Mobil 1

Looks fine except the transmission oil, not sure if I would run the dextron. My 05 manual says to run a vtwin transmission oil, alot here myself included run the Redline Heavy Shock Proof oil.

S&S recommends the Mobil 1 20-50 but I personally prefer using the Valvoline VR 1 20-50. Definitely quieter then the synthetic. After having run close to overheating in heavy traffic at bike week several years ago (using synthetic) a Big Dog dealer told me that in those conditions they regularly run straight 70 weight with Lucas stabilizer mixed in. I was afraid of going that heavy but have been using the VR 1 and Lucas and been good in traffic!

20-50 syn- engine
dextron ATF-primary (no slip issues, cheap,&works great)
80-90 syn- tranny

Primary-- Bel-Ray primary fliud
Trans--- Bel-Ray 85w140 gear oil
Motor--- Rev-Tech 20w50 with a little Lucas Oil treatment. I have TP rockers and synthetic seems to make more top end noise.
This combination has got me over 16,000 miles so far. I'm going to stick with it :D
