It finally has turned cold> I was hoping to get in a couple more rides, but it is into Nov. and you never know, it could be snowing, or frozen. Put the dog to bed with fresh oil, stabilizer in the gas, and a light coat of vasaline on all the chrome. Sealed the intake and exhaust, and put some oil in the cylinders. Took the battery out and put on the tender for the rest of the winter. Put it up on blocks and threw a couple sheets over it. Seems to be resting peacefully. Til next spring!

I've never heard of vaseline on the chrome, or sealing the intake and exhaust... I won't doubt your methods as everyone's is different, just hadn't heard of that.

I heard of putting steel wool in the exhaust to keep mice from climbing in and making nests in there, never herd of the Vaseline though.

Sure would hate to have to clean that vaseline off in the Spring! :loony:

After a few months of cold garage temps, it'll turn into some serious "gorp"...tough to remove!

Wouldn't silicone spray accomplish the same thing, IF you're worried about your chrome? Much easier to wash off.

I touch chrome as little as possible...just make sure it's clean (ie- bug-free, dirt-free), then leave it alone! :yesnod:

It's nice here in Southern FL and will be taking the Dog down to Key Largo tomorrow for some peel and eat shrimp along with a few cold ones.
I'll post some pics from the Keys to keep the northern brothers and sisters thinking stay warm.

The vaseline is just a real light coat. Keeps moisture from condensing that can cause pitting. I have used it for years. It works great and wipes off quite easily in the spring. As far as sealing the exhaust, I take an oil soaked clean rag and put it in the exhaust pipe and duct tape over the opening. The intake I just seal the filter with duct tape. Throughout the winter the freeze and thaw cycle creates a lot of moisture at times. Melting snow and ice in the garage can also create a lot of moisture. Moisture in the motor can take a toll on rings and valves etc. I just try to do as much as possible to keep it from causing RUST.

Actually it cleans off quite easily. A soft cotton cloth and a little elbow grease. Keep in mind I don't glob it on heavily. It is just a light coating.

IN HONOR OF OUR NORTHERN BROTHERS

Ah, ah
We come from the land of the ice and snow
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands
To fight the horde, singing and crying: "Valhalla, I am coming!"

On we sweep with threshing oar
Our only goal will be the western shore

Ah, ah
We come from the land of the ice and snow
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow
How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore
Of how we calmed the tides of war, we are your overlords

On we sweep with threshing oar
Our only goal will be the western shore

So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing
