I am in the process of installing a ultima starter on my 2002 pitbull. The starter is installed but it seems the jackshift screw will not reach the starter. The screw is the same size as the oringnal but If I rember before installing the starter the shaft on the starter is shorter.Anybody else have this problem?
Also I cant seem to get the pinion gear seated all the way is there a trick to this.Does the spring look right in the picture?

The bushing looks like it needs to slide in further. They can be stuburn but it should slide in. I don't see anything else wrong.

How far is the bushing supposed to slide in?If I twist it goes in a little farther
The gear will only go in so far but you still see the spring.

It looks like the starter is pushing out the bushing.I put my old one back on and the bushing stays flush with the case.I am going to send the starter back.

Did you put the spacer in backwards compare the two and you will not see any differance and the spacer is a common mistake judging from your pitcher that looks like what you may have done as a Harley starter is a Harley starter

I never pulled the spacer out.If I use the ultima starter it pushes the bushing out.If I put the old starter on the bushing stays flush.
I think the starters are not fitted for the older dogs. The jackscrew bolt doesn't even reach.

Put some Never-Seize on the splined shaft from the starter. It is binding when you are installing the new starter. Make sure it is lined up on the splines. Give the bushing a few taps w/ a rubber mallet and it will slide on just fine.

flip the bushing around....if you look in the ID of the bushing you will see a snap ring offset from center....

I tried all of this and I put the old starter back on and the bushing is flush.I took the old starter hopefully to get rebuilt and I am going to return the ulitma starter.
The other problem I am having is getting the pinion gear to seat in the bushing.
