Just got me an 08 K9...Bike hesitates below 3000 RPM...Question: Is the primary chain being loose causing this? How do I tightening it up? The idiots at my local dealer will do Research and development on it and it's a big inconvience...Anybody?

Really, I put on new pipes...How do you tweak a EFI? thought they self adjust...The idiots at Santa Teresa, NM dont know squat about Big Dogs...And they sell them...

They do self adjust thats if they put the o2 sensors back in but it haint no instantaneus
adjustment takes a little riding or you can take it to somebody that is an authorized S&S tuning center and get them to resetup the basic map

Who did you buy the Pipes from. I don't know if its the same for a big dog as it is for a Harley, but when I changed my pipes I bought a fuel Pack from V&H and as well as the pipes. I was able to adjust the fuel map on the spot. My dog is Carb so I just changed jets and wa la.

Does you dog have the S & S IST Ignition, if it does it will self adjust within 100 miles or so. If you don't have the S&S ignition then I would ask V&H if they sell a fuel pack for your dog. That might be the way to go.

I installed pipes from exotic choppers called Cyclops...Its a two in one with 02 sensor hookups...Pipes looks and SOUNDS Awesome....Louder and Deeper than anything I heard on a dog...For the most part, the EFI is learning it and performing ok, I just cant drop below 3k on rpm in any gear or its gonna hesitate...wonder if I can "Fine" tune that out somehow? It feels as if it's too rich...

I had V&H Big Radius 2's put on when the bike was new. It's gonna take ride time 500-1000 miles before it tunes that crap out. Then if you disconnect the battery for whatever reason the map will revert back to factory default and you'll have to start over again. Not real sure if it can be reprogrammed by an S&S tunning center.

Mine was never as bad as what you are saying here. But it did get better the more I rode it.

Enjoy!

I figured as much...Only put about 100 miles through those pipes...It is tuning better everytime I ride...It's not as bad as it sounds...It actually gained a ton of HP and top end...just I have to ride her hard or above 3k all the time...

If you disconnect the battery you will loose all the learned EFI data as well. You will get some problems running short pipes and even more issues without the baffles. I'm glad I went with the V&H BR II. The V&H 2 into 1 are a great choice as well. Ride it 500 miles and it should be better. The more you mess with the bike, more issues will creep in. Get advice here before making any mods. Closer to stock the better unless you are a MC type mechanic.

Maybe you questionable FUEL PUMP problem is starving the EFI...

Thats some good advice...The bike is in the shop now because the computer is dead...Im hoping I get the new computer and it will adapt to any pipe or setup better than original...My only question is when BDM will send the new unit to the shop...They couldnt reach them for 2 weeks now...

The EHC (Electronic Harness Controller) is now being replaced with a newly designed BDM (minimal electronics) unit. The EHC controls everything but the EFI/ignition. The EFI/ignition is controlled by a BLACK BOX S&S control module which has not changed. Not sure which COMPUTER module you are talking about that is possibly bad.

Is it your EHC that's bad or the S&S ECU? The stock S&S ECU is locked and cannot be re-mapped it can only learn up to a 20% change in power. The pipe you installed may be beyond the learning capabilities of the ECU.

The EHC is bad...THe bike did run fine with the pipes although I couldnt get into 6 gear unless I'm over 85mph...Maybe the computer learned and altered the bike...I put those pipes on because the bike always hesitated under 3k even with the stock pipes...I may go back to Vance and hines 2 into 1....

I had the same problem with that dealer too (they have a branch in Los Lunas and Las Cruses NM I deal with the one in Los Lunas) with my Wolf they couldn't get hold to BDM. It took more then 2 weeks and it didn't happen until I contact trough e-mail BDM costumer service and I had BDM get hold to Los Lunas Motosports. Actually BDM told me at that time that they didn't have seen any claims coming from the dealer yet, I didn't know who to believe but that is how I got it going. Not to make you worry but the crank sensor I needed to fix my bike was in back order and took it another extra 5 week before I could see my bike back in my garage. You should contact BDM and get this problem straight out asp. Good luck, I'm feeling your frustration.

Thanks Denny! Las Cruces Motorsports has a bad marriage with Big Dog..The owner is slowly getting rid of them for good so he wont have to worry about honoring warranty work...Insider told me...Big Dogs take a lot of manhours from their dealership which contribute to the slow process on fixing them...They also dont invest in the mechanics knowledge either...Well, i'm stuck in the middle and will watch the whole thing unfold over the next several weeks...hopefully they get her out quick...I did contact Big Dog about the Dealer, they just referred me to Dallas, over 8 hours away...Wrong answer...The Lemon law is clear...Warranty work over 30days is unacceptable....Having parts on back order is also wrong answer...It means they cant manage parts availability or bikes are eating the parts as soon as they are produced, which supports a Lemon claim....

Nice to know that, thanks. Up here in Albuquerque there are some good mechanics with experience on bigdogs too actually one of them is related to my wife family the only problem they cannot performs under warranty.
You take care and let me know how is going. I'm going to pm you I have a question for you

Sorry brother! I wish you were closer. I've had a few unique issues with the EFI bikes. One was a defective throttlebody and one was IAK sensor setting. If the dealer that you are dealing with doesn't have the EFI software there not going to get very far.
