No power to my BDM

Went for a ride all day on Saturday during Thunder beach bike rally (panama city beach, FL) and had no problems. The next morning i went to go back home and i didnt get it started on its own (battery was about 2 years old). I got a jump and it started no problem. i rode for approximately 30 miles before i stopped for gas. I shut the bike off to get gas and filled it up and tried to start it and nothing. So i went to go get a jump and when i did the battery (positive) terminal started to smoke. we disconnected the cables from the terminal and noticed the cables started to melt. We decided that it was time for a new battery. ( reason being was that when i turned the key after all that trouble i had lost all power to the bike. no headlight, no needle check, no mileage nothing.) So we replaced the old battery with a brand new fully charged battery. everything hooked up correctly. tried to turn the key and still had no power. I have after market led lights with a remote and turned those on with no problem. We looked under the seat for shorts of any kind and didnt see anything. any suggestions?

very possible ehc failure .. jump starting is a major ..no..no.. & running with a discharged battery can cause charging system failures leading to ehc failure.& adding those light dont help... do a search.. check your complete elect sysyem now.. start with the key switch,. to see why no power up ...

Jumping it was just by using cables to a vehicle That wasn't running. It was the only way to get it going without having my charger. thans for the tip, i will keep you posted

Have you checked your led lights on your EHC?

yeah i am not getting anything. Its like the battery isnt there. But my aftermarket LED light will work, and they dont draw that much power. Is it possible that i may have a bad relay?

Check all your connections including the ground at the starter bolt. You should also have either a reset button or a 40 amp fuse on the big positive wire going to the battery. This cable comes from the voltage regulator. As Eric said check out you entire electrical system for charge rate, shorts, & loose connections. Starting at the key switch first.

dude you got a fuse?? both mine wire directly to the battey...no fuse no where on the bike.. unless the breaker was swaped out..from the v/r...

Shore do matter of fact it may have two go look in your manual corse I dont no nuthing bout your nue stuff but when I got my harness it had a fuse for the EHC and then my tender harness has one

yeah your right my tender hook up has a fuse. but the tender wire I added... no fuse any where else though.. not on eather dog..

Well I knowd you fire back a post so I went and looked in the manual at the skeematic and your supposed to have either a fuse or a circut braker BigDog musta knowd them were gonna be your to motorsickles and sabotaged em.......Think about it what vehicle have you ever seed that run the lectricity straight to the parts with nuthing in between

alright crack head look @ post #9... the breaker or fuse is for charging the battery.. & that wont cause total elect system failure.. just no charging,, he said he replaced the battery ,fully charged & load tested... are you on the rag agin?? quit bitchin.. or are you just mad I didnt go to pcb..:roll:

do you have power going into the EHC?Just sayn cause I haven't heard that question or answer to said question yet.

I looked and saw no fuses, Chased wires from the battery and nothing. All it has is a plastic tube protecting the wire. I checked in my manual to see about troubleshhoting and to see if the could show where if there were any fuses and it didnt help at all.

I have no working led lights on the EHC. like i said before there is no power to any system, not hazards, not the horn, nothing except for my after market LED lights hooked up to the battery.

I'd start with the key switch 1st.. make sure it works.. even by pass it if needed... to clear up a ehc failure.. all connections are tight right? main battery wires & grounds, check the main ground on the starter mounting bolt..

Damn, I hate to agree with Eric, but looks like you should start with your keyswitch. Check power coming in (straight shot from the battery), then see if once you turn the key on, that you have power going out.

I believe the key works a grounding curcuit..I dont think the switch has power..
