Getting the dog ready for a bunch of LED's

I started taking the bike apart this afternoon to run wires for a bunch of LED's. Took me a while to figure out how to get the tank off carefully. After working on it for a few hours I have figured out where I'm putting them all. Hopefully I'll get it finished tomorrow. I'll post up some pics when I'm done. Here she is naked in the garage.

use caution with installing LEDs.. on a dog.. lots of folks have has issues if you still got the ehc.. it may kill the ehc..

In theory if you run your power and ground right to the battery and don't tap into any factory wires you should be fine.
Of course I am not guaranting this but there is no proof to support that a stand alone unit will hurt your ehc.

Ran 12 Lizard lights on mine and did not effect the EHC. tapped right into the battery.
Since then I have replaced EHC with a Wire Plus. But never had a problem with them.

If the LED kit comes with it's own on/off switch I would definately go to the battery terminals with a fuse to bypass any existing harness wiring.

Don let your front tool bag f_-k up your headlight finish. Put some stone chip gaurd on it.

I am wiring it up as a stand alone system with an on and off waterproof toggle. Using an in line fuse connected to the battery. When doing it this way, there is no risk of affecting anything on the bike. The worst thing that can happen is a dead battery. I would rather that than my ECH. Taking a break for the night. Been going crazy trying to hide everything. Getting most of it through the frame and used some stainless steel cables to get power to the front wheel. I'll finish it up tomorrow after I get a few things I need.

GOOD IDEA ON THE ROCK GUARD!!!!!!!!!!! I have clear vinyl on it right now.

I'm just sayin my dealer told me of the light put out a frequency or something.. the same issue with running different plug wires.. anyway bdm has voided warrentys due to adding those lights.. I saw a pile @ the shop the other day.. it killed the electerical system.. seeing is believing.. but do as you wish..

As long as you do not tie the lights into the stock wiring nothing will happen. I am not touching any of the stock wires, just adding the load directly onto the battery. I have taken classes on auto electronics and have never heard of LED's killing an electrical system if they were wired properly. It would be different if you added some big auxiliary lights and the battery was not getting charged. Even then, you would just end up with a bad battery.

yep I understand.. call bikers dream... ask for steve.. these were wired the same way.. I have done electrical work for the better part of 15 yrs,, I do understand where you are going,, I just mentioned the issues.. & bdm might void the warrenty if you have any kind of claim dealing with the electrical system,, I saw the mess.. good luck.. hope it doesnt affect yours..

Good to know. If anything were to happen, I would just ditch the ECH for the wire plus.

Got it all done. I ended up putting them on each side of the front wheel, under the tank, under my air intake, under the coil, on the back side of the oil tank pointing towards the rear wheel, on the rear brake caliper bracket pointing towards the wheel, and under the frame pointing at the ground. Surprisingly, I still have two strips of 6 led's left that I couldn't find a spot for.

Here are some pics from after I went for a ride. The pics don't really show how much light these things put off. Most of my pictures are red and blurry. I'll have to grab a few when it isn't so dark.

How bout a daytime pic on how you wired the front wheel? Thinking of adding one on my front end too but wanted to hide the wires...
