Rotor design Flaw

So, I've begun to notice a ridge building up between the holes on the rotors. Sure enough, Fab Kevin has a great article in The Horse (BSC) this month on making a ventilated rotor from a solid.

He points out that if the holes don't overlap, then a ridge will build up -- guess BDM didn't get that lesson in machinist school.....

Little hard to see in the pics, but there is a ridge you can feel in the small area where the holes don't overlap -- may put them on the drill press and enlarge the holes in the middle and see what happens :up:

Wierd even though the pads hit the entire rotor.

If they aren't squeaking, I don't see the problem. My vented rotors on my car don't all overlap. They couldn't it would cause to little friction area.

Are you sure it's the hole spacing is causing the grooves?
Looks like the pads are loaded up.
Chamfer open the holes a bit to get the overlap you want, it's easier.

No effect to braking -- just looks bad. No electronic link to the article -- The Horse ain't that kinda mag.

Just wanted to point out the issue for others that may have seen similar things -- would take many miles to develop.

This make sense to me ? Would be stronger than drilling a larger hole!
