Has anyone...by that I'm presumably talking about Gas...ever done a How-to on installing a throttle control. Not one of those fancy ones from the other thread..but a plain ole simple manual one.

Also where do you get the big dog ones? The screw in type. I see them on dogs all the time, my K9 doesn't have one....anyone know??

BDM lists the Throttle Screw Lock as "no longer installed". Have it on my 04, but can't even get the replacement parts for it now.

Oh, I didn't know that they stopped putting them on. Mines a pain and I don't use it just cause it doesn't work very well for me.

Never used mine until I ran into the vendor selling those Throttle Mate tabs at ROT in 2005. The stock screw is just too damned hard to deal with.

Been looking at the other options out there as a reseller. There seem to only be a couple that will specifically work with BDM grips.

I think they stopped somewhere in mid '06. By the time I got my K9 in March of '07 they were long gone. However, I did order chrome replacement controls, and they still came with the throttle screw at that time. I don't find it particularly useful, as it is a little stiff (which, I suppose it has to be), and besides, I'd never trust locking the throttle open like that anyway. From the BDM perspective, they were probably seeing all kinds of liability issues.

when using a manual lock, you dont want or need to lock it down hard. just a slight tension keeps it in place. im sure, as with anything, there are folks that will lock it so hard that you couldnt move the throttle with a pipe wrench.......sheesh, common sence should prevail............but alas, it is being lost among the masses.................

My 05 has the screw but I don't like it so here is one of my projects inprocess.

Kuryakyn has made an extended throttle boss # 6242

Standard and extended.

[/IMG]
Nice match up.

[/IMG]

[/IMG]
A little cap also from Kuryakyn.

[/IMG]

The grips will need to be machined or ground somewhat flat for a better match, BTW they are chromed aluminum so you need to be careful with this operation.

[/IMG]
You will need to drill 4 holes for the 4-40 SHCS
Tap drill is #43.

[/IMG]

The left or clutch side will need a larger hole to accept the cap and trim ring.

Nice work Kickstart, will the cap be an adjustment feature or will the tab be fixed. Would be cool if it had small teeth so that you could loosen the cap and rotate the tab for what ever speed your doing.

Very nice work,
Ray

:hi: shane and i both have the throttle screws on '07 K9's bought in oct., 07. were told they were primarily for the technicians to use when working on the bikes and not to use them for cruise control because they were so difficult and awkward to release in a hurry. when i got mine back from it's 2500, the tech hadn't completely released the screw and it almost put me into the side of a car in a parking lot:angry:  with the wife on board:bang: :bang:

Okay, looks like you will get some good range out of that. What I was asking is will you be able to adjust it on the fly?
Guess you wouldn't if you have to lock down the 4 screws.
Great work,
Ray

Isaw this link somewhere and have given some thought to it. It's a little pricey but would be nice to be able to lock in the throttle and increase or decrease speed with ease. It you read the site the throttle turns and clinks. Each click represents 2 mph increase or decrease.

That screw is really meant as a high idle hold for warming up the bike... but I don't use mine... I just turn up the idle on the top of my XXX'ed carb.

Looks like I'll be setting up to sell The Throttler by the beginning of Feb. I'm planning on meeting with these guys at the VTwin Show.

Talked to them yesterday and they WILL fit BDM grips :2thumbs:
