First off, I'd like to thank Jake for hooking me up with Don @ Wire-Plus, and for Don's handling of my situation in which he owed me NOTING! Cudos to you both!

A little back ground... This last winter I had installed a WP, running fine all summer long (in fact I never had electrical issues which had plagued me since I've had the bike) Well 2 weeks ago we are doing a dry run for a cancer benefit, get to one of our destinations about 75 miles:spank: from home shut the bike down and the battery is whistling like a tea kettle:eek:, everyone is looking at me, and I'm wondering what bomb is about to go off between my legs.:bang: So I let it sit, it is super HOT:rant: an hour pass's and start it, starts right up but we figure it must be over charging so we go to unhook the battery, bike shuts down!:bang::bang: Hook battery back up and smoke starts running out of the WP module:angry: Yup! smoked my WP module! AND MY BATTERY (by by Braille):rant::rant: White electrical stink! So I figure I must have lost another VR! MY SECOND ONE IN AS MANY YEARS!:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

So I contact Jake and intern he gives me Dons number and he hooks me up!:cheers::cheers::cheers:

Now I haven't tore into anything yet, since I can't really check what has failed with out a module, so as soon as I get that I will do the testing and go from there, but I'm figuring it's the VR AGAIN!

I am also going to ultimately change the charging system out to the 40 amp like Jake did. :2thumbs:

Till then, I was thinking of adding this so that I can protect my battery and WP. Any one do this? When I find a place to mount it I will post pics......:D

First I am pretty sure your bike is a 40 amp charging system. Do you have the 40 amp fuse in the cable coming from the VR to the battery? This should protect your electrical system. Check that fuse, if it is blown then suspect and over charging condition or a short. If you do not have the fuse then you may want to install one. On the meter I think Raywood has something similar, his is call a Battery Bug I think. Not a bad idea, you can always check the charging system condition.

Yes it's the standard 40 amp, I am going to upgrade to the Compu-Fire 40 amp.

I'd of thought the fuse would have blown.... but it didn't. And like I said the battery was soo hot it was blowing acid steam all over the place.

Dam sorry to hear that. My 05 ridge rubs the top corner off the battery from the seat siting on top of the battery corner. Check that too. When i changed my first battery to the braille the factory battery had the top corner ground off and my seat underneath had a flat rubbed spot. I guess what i'm saying is possibly the battery shorted internally. Just sayin.

Here is the LINK for that site. Seems to me a few members came away with less than great results with the Bug. I think it could not handle the big inch v-twins that we all have and was somewhat inaccurate. You might contact Raywood for his thoughts on it to double check. I purchased one and took it off my bike and it is now on my riding lawn mower and it works on it as advertised.

Good info guys! If the fuse didn't blow battery may have just shorted out. Be careful hooking everything back up.

Had Vr replaced twice in a month on my 08 K9. Fried my Braille battery. BD VR was replaced with a Drag Specialties Vr. It fried my battery a month later. Rodney's Cycle house did some investigating and found out that some of the Drag Specialties VR's were made in China. That was the kind they had installed on my bike. Put another Drag Specialties VR made in the USA on my bike 3 months ago, along with a Deka battery. Working great so far. Just some food for thought....... Hope u find the problem.
