Valve Covers

Ok guys I dont know a hole lot about V twin motors so dont beat me up on this. I take it the chrome covers on top of the cylunder heads are called valve covers. My problem is that the chrome is peeling on one of them on this bike I just bought. Are these aluminum or iron? And If aluminum can I just strip the chrome and polish them?

Yep got the same thing have one very small bubble on top of mine. Called Rocker covers. Would like to change to s&s rocker covers in the future. You have the same as I do TP rocker covers. You probably get ticking sound when you crack the throtle. Mine are not to loud just get used to it. Not sure what is under chrome though.

Ask around on here TheLaDog I've seen them on here before when some one changes them out for s&s rocker covers. Go to the swap meet in the forms and look also.

Ok, so the very top covers with the allens screws are the Rocker covers and I take it the pieces that they bolt to are the rocker boxes?

My 05 ridgeback has done the same thing. Sucks big time. Looks like shit. Just the very tops. I wonder what it would cost to send em in and have em rechromed? Or buy more. From the pics it looks like you just got bubbling but mine the bubbles have come off and looks bad. The rest of my ride looks great however. I came in from E. Texas last weekend and was covered with red dirt and rain. Washed the dog with S100 and cleaned right up.

TJ,
You can buy TP rocker boxes fairly cheap on Ebay, but why buy something that has a proven track record of poor geometric alignment with the valves? :job: I would save my money and go to S&S rocker boxes/roller rockers as apposed to buying TP again. It's about $1000 for the set. I think I've seen TP's on Ebay for about $265. In this case, you get what you pay for. I've already had a valve break mid stem and trashed the entire upper end of one side and then had the valve guides wear completely out and had to replace on the other side. :bang::angry::spank: I'm looking for a used set of S&S but may break down this winter if I get ahead and buy new.

Thanks for the info Brad. I was curious about the cost to go SS. :cheers:Between Deer hunting, fishing, and the old lady dogging me to save up for a vacation next year :spank:it may be awhile before i run up on 1000 skins. I sure dont want to come apart though and tear up a top end. :bang: I'm gonna give this one some thought.
