Oil line

I was checking my bike over because my oil light was coming on and going off. I was just riding around town so headed home. Looked like I had plenty of oil and I had not noticed any oil on the garage floor. The first thing I find is the rear bolt on the coil cover is just about backed out completely. So I thought I had better tighten motor mounts and check over other nuts and bolts also. In the process I noticed oil underneath by the shocks. Wiped it off and got poked by a fine wire off one of the oil lines. It looks like the line had been rubbing on the shock and wore through the braiding and obviously the line itself. It just must have started leaking because there was not a lot of spray from it. Now I need a new line. I wonder if Big Dog has any parts on hand yet. It sucks living so far away from a dealer. Will have to start calling around.

you should have some kind of shop around that can make the steel braid hose for oil .i got several made for same price as ordering it .just can't think of the name of the shop.but if you look in the yellow pages you'll find one.....

Thanks

Thanks guys! I will check the local parts houses around here. Hopefully they can handle that for me.

If you had plenty of oil in it I would not think the line seeping oil would make the light come on. Also I have noticed a small amount of oil around that area on my K9 but think it was from an oil change and just blew some oil that I may not have cleaned up on the bottom of the bike. Just thinking?

The line definately has a hole in it. This morning I had oil on the floor. I did add oil just in case. The oil lite didn't come on and stay on. It would come on like at a stop sign and then go out. I will take it out and see what happens when I get a new hose made. Thanks!

Armad, as a sidenote...I currently have a leaky o-ring on one of my front pushrod tubes. Nothing major, but after long distances on the interstate, feel compelled to wipe it off. Runs down my pushrod tube, collects in the lifter block, then runs down the bottom of the motor. Even occasinally blasts back onto my pipes. And still no oil light coming on. So your's in probably worse.

Make sure your idle is around 1000, if it idles low it will flash or come on.
I had thought about that, but I thought all the lites flashed with a low idle. With the electronics on these bikes I guess anything is possible. Thanks
