Super Mutt

I have really been enjoying the Mutt I purchased in March! Love the performance and the looks I get when out riding. I need a carb/ cam combo that can be tunes for low end torque. Something that will not lug the motor @ 1500-2000 rpms. Don't know if that is possible, but is about the only thing I would change.

Mikuni 48mm and a W6HF cam from Bobby Woods. But as I have learned the hard way, these EPA friendly motors pretty much suck without some serious work ie bigger valves, zero deck, etc.

How many miles are on the bike? When my bike had low miles on it, it didn't like those low r's either. I now have 10,000 miles on it, not so bad at low r's but don't spend much time down that low.

I went with the Dave Mackie 580 and love the low end torque. Comes on strong at 2000 Rpm and pulls hard through redline.

I have about 4000 mi on the clock. I have only put on a couple thousand myself as I bought the bike used. I am looking at the 585 cam for sure. I can put it in myself, and see what happens.

Cruises fine at 2000 rpm in 6th gear, but runs better around 2500. Plenty of passing power in 6th gear, no need to downshift.

Give Bob Woods a call about cams. He is a good guy to talk to. Your 08 has single wound .585 Sidewinder beehive springs. I went with the Woods W8
.590 lift cam. short duration helps to build a little more cylinder pressure where a lnoger duration will bleed some off, but may have a better top end. 2000 rpm in sixth is a little low I try not to hit sixth unless the RPM's will be at 2500. Don't know what numbers I'm puttin out but, I'm runnin mean mothers, with thunder monster, Woods W8, Triple X G carb, Thunder heart programable igntion and it does what I need it to do and on long flat avg 45 mpg.:2thumbs:

Dig in to that motor

Really not looking for high end. I want something that does not lug the motor at 2000 rpm in any gear. Mine even lugs at 2500 rpm so I never cruise at anything under 3000 rpm. 3000 rpm in 6th is around 80. I spend most of my time in 5th at 3000 rpm(70mph). It sounds like your bike is set up quite well. 45 mpg is good. My last fillup was at 100 mi. I just hit reserve and switched over. I had been driving mostly around town and was cranking it every time I rode it. If I take it easy I can easily go 120 mi before hitting reserve.
