We seem to have a pretty good selection of shops right here in Raleigh, off the top of my head, Twin Specialties, Iron Thunder, J&D's, Bikers Blvd, and probably quite a few others right here in town....so where do you guys take them after the warranty is up??? Mine is having issues with....yeah you guessed it, the starter....so do I take it to Twin or is there a better recommendation, as Twin is pretty pricey from my last visit....seems like i cant get out of there for under 500 for anything!! LOL

LOL.... sorry, I didnt even think of Ray Price...LOL I have never had work done there, ever. I usually try and find the small 1 or 2 man shops, provided they have a good reputation vice the largest dealer in the city. To be honest, I have always ridden crotch rockets up until 2 years ago when I scored my Pitbull. I have ridden from Palm Springs CA to Daytona 3 years in a row on the rice burners and have also toured the entire west coast and about half the east coast, all on sport bikes so I usually did all my work myself, but its a little more intimidating when you are talking about a 30 - 50 k bike vice a 9k one. Kinda like going from the Chevette to the Corvette so to say!! :-D My biggest worry is now that I need some work done that it will start nickel and diming me to death....I mean I wanna ride the damn thing not have to trailer it to the shops...:2thumbs:

The majority of my work is done in my garage. If it's a bigger problem than I can or want to deal with or if I just don't have enough time in the day I'll take it to RUA in Monroe, NC. Great people to deal with. Mike there know everything about everything. And if he doesn't know, he won't BS you. We usually go there on Saturdays to shoot the shit and grab some lunch. They have a grill in the back shop area and cook up some mean chili and dogs.

Redrider, your bike is very simple to work on. Just get a manual and you'll be on your way. I've also worked on sportsbike all my life and these dogs are a lot easier. If you are changing out the starter, it's an easy fix. The starter has two bolts that hook up to the primary. You need a long extension and you can get right to it. I have an 03 so if you need something, holla.

Red, like most of the guy's will tell you wrench your own and I do most of that myself on all my bikes also.

With the how-to's and advice from the folks here their not going to steer you wrong. Try it yourself if you get stumped, ask. I dought there is not many issues that have not already been through here.

But for the stuff that I don't trust myself doing or anything under warranty I will carry mine to Twin Specialties. Oh yea, it gives me a reason to get great BBQ

I mean, I'm not a pitch guy for them or anything but for me they have done me right. That being said, I have only had warranty work done by them. And getting ready to have a little more in a couple weeks (side covers & strut bolts). Hell yea that shits easy to do, but under warranty, for me no brainer.

Greensboro Big Dog should be another option for you also I would think.

Good luck.

Yeah, I have one of the shop manuals you get on ebay that is on CD....got it right after I bought the bike....but I have moved 3 times since then so I gotta track it down. I just replaced the batter in the thing the other day because I went to start it and NUTTING....just a click and sometimes not even that. I noticed the battery tender had all the lights blinking fast on it whether it was plugged to the bike or not, so it let go on me too!! LOL So I replaced the battery, and I still get nothing. Dunno if its the starter, EHC, ignition, who knows!!! At least its winter here and not in the middle of perfect riding season! I am hoping its the starter, as I would hate it to be something electrical since that is so much harder to track down! I can feel the compression releases working when it does finally click. ITs just strange that it was working fine, and then once I replace the battery all hell breaks loose (which is why I am thinking it may be electrical)

You should get a meter and make sure that you are putting out I think it's 12.8 on the battery. If I'm wrong someone wil chime in. If the battery has juice and the starter will not turn over. Give it a little tap on the solenoid side which is the small part of the starter. It might have gotten stuck. If the bike starts that way, yo know it's the starter. If not try removing the starter and putting juice to it to see if the gears turn..

MARIO Do all of as a favor HERE when you go to rua (MIKE) Ask mike if he has a bullet proof starter with the correct orings and seals to prevent oil from getting into our starters. Not wanting to go with a belt drive yet. no b/s 05chop

13.3 on the battery, then after I hit the starter just the one time it drops to 12.75...LOL I can see it when it finally hit, that it tries to turn my primary belt. I also noticed that when it sits with the key in, after about 20 seconds the EHC starts flashing a yellow light and my neutral light and engine oil light start blinking. I gotta go dig up my shop manual and see what it all means....
