I will share my very first negitive encounter with HD, I had had my K9 about 6-8 months when a good buddy (custon soft tail) & I pulled into a friend of mines bar that sponsers a couple race boats and there was (and I'm sorry) a PILE parked outside we went in and heres a guy and gal @ the bar both in there mid to late 50's stereotypical guy and his gal, 90 deg day and there all leathered up and well lets just say she was prob good lookin 30+ yrs ago, I'm in shorts the guy walks by me and stops and says "WHY DIDN'T YOU BY A REAL BIKE" and bear in mind I'm ALOT more tolerant now but I said "What like That Oil Rag POS You Ride" he walks off and mutters "KIDS" kids ??? I was 42 yrs old WTF, I don't get much shit at all, being 6'5" 340 tends to be a very strong deturant, and at the end of the day most of all the neg comments we as Big Dog owners get comes from JELOUSLY & ENVY

its funny all I ride with is HD & metric guys and they have no problem, they all say they wish they could afford a bike lke mine

Yes, I've gotten the cold shoulder, as I'm sure most of us have a time or two. I work with this guy that rides a Harley and metrics and all he talks about is how Harley riders think they're badass and I look at him and say look in the mirror you ride one. I think this guy has a complex or something, then he goes into speaking about my Mastiff and saying you got those tiny mirrors on that thing and that's what causes motorcyclist get into wrecks. I quickly stopped him in his tracks when I said, you use your mirrors? I told him, I use my mirrors mainly to see who's coming up on me or locating the vehicle I just passed. When changing lanes I do a lane check by looking at the lane I'm going into. This pretty much has shut him up! I'm not too proud to ride with anyone and I don't talk smack about what other people ride. I'm with most of you, if you ride on two wheels and your enjoying it, then be safe and ride on...:2thumbs:

We have a new member, and a riding buddy of mine, R1200GS. He bought his beemer after hurricane Wilma flooded his Dyna.

This guy IS a biker, has ridden all over the world and is the only guy I know who rides more then Ray does. And I love that BMW he has... he'll be camping with us at The Chip this year and will be at the luncheon on the 10th. I could care less what he rides.

I think he finally bought a car after he got got stationed in DC. :lol:

Yeah Snake, THe first day I rode my K9 LE to work I over heard a V-ROD owner criticising my bike to another coworker. He didn't know I was listening but the first coworker asked the VROD owner if he had seen my bike, and he made some snobby remark about the BigDog "being alright if you like wasting your money on that kind of bike"
That coming from a guy who just spent 18K on a BMW crotch rocket to go along with his VROD.
I own what i feel is one of the most beautiful and badass cycles in the world, and ya know what, some mornings I walk right past it and get on my old 83 Suzuki I paid $400 for and I ride to work, with my face in the wind as happy as a dog in a truck bed on a dirt road!

:2thumbs: whatever makes you happy long long long time ago i couldn't wait to get up and start wrenching on a vespa scoot with my dad. that turned into some show bikes and then life got in the way. moved out of the sturgis area and now i'm comeing full circle. so saddle up and lets ride .bike or women.. i'm more picky when it comes to the women:2thumbs::2thumbs: not that thats ok it's just me....................peace

I'm not sure why so many people hate on other bikes. It's crazy...I ride with everyone...big dogs, ultra classics, goldwings, sport bikes...whatever...as long as it has 2 wheels...hell, even the spyder is fine with me. You should see the look on peoples faces when they see me riding with 4-5 crotch rockets...priceless...maybe thats why my back tire is almost gone...oh well!

Rode many bikes and loved them all, dirt and street. I ride with a bunch of Harley guys, who have been great friends forever. When i bought the Dog, I knew it would stir the pot. Once they saw and rode the Dog, got nothing but thumbs up. Sure, we bust each others balls all the time about our rides, but all in good fun. They all love the horsepower of our dogs compared to their Briggs and Strattons. OOPPS, that slipped out.

If money grew on trees in my back yard, I'd have 2 or 3 harley davidsons in my garage along side my k9. I sometimes miss the Harley I traded in for a BD chopper, so nothing against Harleys. I think the bottom line is, these guys bought into the HD thing, they got the bike, and thought the bike was going to make them rock stars. The reality they quickly faced was, their bikes look just like the other 12 in the parking lot. The harley isn't giving these guys what they were looking for, status. They are just another guy with a bike.......and it pisses them off. Then here you come along on your Big Dog with awesome paint, and lots of hot rod looks and it just makes them even more pissed.

Good post and I hope that the V-Rod and BD you are able to enjoy fully. NOt sure of the V-Rod forum, but it does reflect a generalization of how many riders get snobbish to the extream when they get a bike, normally their first one.

I think when they do, they miss the point of two wheels in the first place. It is not the brand or what the clothing may say, it is the feeling of the road, the adventures and the sharing with other like minded folks.

I love my Big Dog, as well as my Buell and even the wife Honda. Loved pretty much any bike I have from a HD to Kaws to Gas Gas. I do not need to trash another man or woman ride for if they are on two wheels and getting the pleasure that I do, they are tops in my book.

Found many that become snobbish and downgrade other ride to the extream, are missing the point or showing their lack of real understanding. Not to pick on HD, but they have many many that quickly fall within such sterotypes, usuall after they get their ride, many for their first ride. Hell many of them get snobbish within their own brand, such as the classic when someone pulls up on sporty and you hear the full blown HD clone start saying "why did you buy a gril bike". I wonder how many of such would say that to many rider 40 years ago!!!

Seems like it is easy for anyone to get a new bike, buy everytype of logo clothing in the store, get on a forum with others and before long make a few open houses and 50 mile poker runs and then become a guru with their 1000 mile a year riding and gets attitute against some blok out there with their old beater sporty with the 40k on it, or the Goldwinger that has made 10 trips across country, the Dual Sport loaded down with bags and in need of wash after coming back from a 1000 mile weekend of riding on and off roads, or even the kid with his classic Vespa that is racking up a few hundred miles a week going back and forth to work.

As the saying goes $20,000 and 2 miles does not make one a biker! True no matter how many little funny stickers or patches sewned on their leather.

Everyone be safe and enjoy the freedom of the open road, regardless of what you are ride on to enjoy such freedom.

While there is nothin' wrong with a little good-natured ribbing between friends, we all enjoy the freedom to ride what we like and not have to answer to anyone as to why. It's about riding.

There are simpletons and ignorant people out there - bikers and non-bikers alike.

I was in the airport going to Vegas for my bachelor party with some buddies 2 years ago before I bought the Big Dog. I was wearing my Black Hills Harley Davidson t shirt. The guy and his wife started small talk and asked me what kind of Harley I rode. Told him "I have a Honda Shadow, not that I didn't want a Harley but at the time I couldn't afford one." He then said, "Do you think you deserve to wear that shirt?" Fuck him. Thats half the reason a lot of people 'outside' the biker comradery (sorry for the misspell) don't like us. Who gives a shit what shirt you wear or brand you ride.

I admit to making statements like "the only way I would wear a full-face helmet is so I couldn't be recognized riding a Honda" Could be offensive to folks who believe in helmets and folk who ride Honda's.

I also feel there is nothing wrong with cheering for the home team. Calling someone out for wearing a Harley shirt and riding something else shows ignorance. I ride the Dog wearing HD riding gear all the time. WTF??

It is not about the money. The used market will allow for about any wallet. I would have trouble going back to a Harley simply because it feels like a weak suck and a bit heavy compared to what I now ride.....only my view. Others might not like what I ride. I can still show pride....right??? Bottom line.....show respect for choices of others and if you disagree....keep it to yourself.
