Oil can hang out in the pump, lines, and other nooks and crannies. A quart may be little on the high side, but half a quart for sure.

When I used the Scavenger I pumped out 20 to 24 ounces (until the oil comes out clean). My 2008 Ridgeback takes 3 quarts of oil so I recommended the other quart.

Hey K9 Anniv - The Scavenger was soooo easy to use, after you screw on the puck and start the bike the old oil just pumps out gently through a tube to your bucket or can, not splashing all over the place! Easily a one person job for the beginner (i'm no mechanic).

I only have 1 Big Dog dealer in my area and He's not very close, I have other issues with him now after I got my brake light fixed, so I'm going to do as much service to my chopper that I can. Something I also found out while changing the fluid is that my oil plug is not magnetic (Thank Goodness I have a Pure Power Oil Filter with the earth magnets inside!!), also when I changed the tranny fluid it came out "Pea Soup" Green!! Clearly water was getting in there and it got contaminated!! I followed Gas Man's advice and put a dab of high temp RTV silicone on all the plugs.

Here's the oil I used, and here's what it cost me (i joined the "preferred member" list for $10.00 before for my car.

Amsoil..... unfortunately not for me here in TX!!! Made my Dog sound like I installed a quart of marbles once it got up to temp. However, it could have been related to me only having 1k miles on the bike. I contacted S&S and they recommended a good brand 50wt non-synthetic for TX heat, and suggested I wait till 5k to switch to synthetic in the engine. Drained the Amsoil and put in Valvoline VR racing 50wt dino oil and the marbles went away.

Also put the Amsoil 20-50 in the primary and the severe duty 75-110 in the trans and it performs well in those holes!!!! :2thumbs:

I am not knocking Amsoil and will try again at 5k because I do prefer synthetic, but it made me sick after i changed the oil and it sounded horrible.

Just my experience....
Can you notice a difference in the transmission and/or primary after switching, as that is all I would consider changing at this point, as my bike is at 1k as well.

I took the chopper out yesterday with my new V&H 2-1 pipe and full Amsoil oil change. Yeah you can hear the lifters in the heads but not while riding. I also actually like to hear the engine, not just the exhaust. The S&S is a symphony orchestra of moving parts :2thumbs:

I guess running a thicker oil to quiet down the engine is possible, but it has to slow the performance of the engine too right? The friction tests of the Amsoil is what sold me on their product line.
