Anyone use a cruise control?

I'm trying to plan for Daytona. About 500 miles. This will be the longest trip I have taken. Trying to make it as comfortable as poss. Has anyone rigd up a cruise control on their bike? Don't even know if it poss . Thanks.

These guys make a cruise control that is "safe" and auto cancels which you really want. I heard about these on this site and found it and just linked you to it. They don't actually say they have one for the Ridgeback but, I would call them.

No...haven't decided on which grips i want to get to replace my stock....will probably wait until then...but it is definitely something i want to get. had a suicide throttle on my HD and used it all the time on long rides....have been looking for something like this for my BD

I use the Crampbuster. Easy to adjust unlike the second one here that is in a fixed position. Your throttle is in different positions when you are doing 60 compared to 75 so with the Crampbuster you just roll it up a little bit till it feels good. When you come to a stop you just roll it around and it's ready again.

Yea, I'd rather tie a string to from my nuts to the throttle for $400.

Raywood, that's a cool piece and I think worth the $11 but I'd like to find something that does not require me to have my right hand up near or on the bars all the time.

i tighten the throttle lock until the throttle does not return on its own. i dont set it so tight that i cannont operate the throttle, just enough to keep it in place.... set the throttle and ease the grip on the bars, rest your hand on your leg, what ever. have done it that way for years. actually the old knucks and pans did not have return springs on the throttle....they would stay were you put them. not a bad concept.

I got to try something. The last long ride with Alicat to Daytona a couple weeks ago I went to hit my right turn signal and I couldn’t feel my thumb at all. Was kind of funny I kept hitting it but nothing would happen so I reached over with my left hand to hit it.:roll: Never had it that bad before. I have used the idle lock screw but don’t like it…

i used my stock grip. it was 240.00 out the door . full moon cycles in lafayette la.

I too tend to use the throttle lock screw and just set it enough to keep it help but allow for me to twist when I need to. I have used Vista Cruise on other bikes, but they do not make them for our newer grips. I will say unless it is an electronic cc like some baggers have, from my experience, they are only good on long even stretches.

Anything else you almost are adjusting it as much as letting it control. Should work good though on those long straight streches down in Florida.

Built My Own Cruise Control

I built my own cruise/throttle control. On the 2003 Chopper BDM put this thumb nut that is very difficult to set the speed and to get it to release. To me it is a hazard that can cause an accident.

I took an aluminum sleeve that just fit over the existing knurled nut and then drilled a hole in it. Them I drilled a hole and threaded it for a 6-32 screw. I went to the hardware store and in thier drawers of screws, nuts, washers and standoffs, I found an allen screw long enough to go through a standoff and the sleeve on the knurled knob to put pressure on the knob to stay attached to the knurled knob.

Whaaaalllaaah. A better throttle/cruise control with a lever that can be set with just one's thumb. I use it all the time on the freeway or long stretches of highway.
