Ray, My 2004 that I just bought has been doing the same thing. I almost got nailed a few times. So I had it trailored to BD in Tampa to take care of all the recalls. They said it it 99 percent my Cam Sensor... We shall see when I get it back tomorrow. If it stalls on 75 I may tell them to come get it and keep it. I still have the old EHC with 3000 miles on the bike.. Any thoughts?? Now I see why the bike has had 4 owners..

Well Ray there isn't $500 worth of material but you forgot one thing, profit. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It's Capitalism. If another company came in with a similar product competition would cause a reduction in cost. If my EHC craps out I could easily fab my own electrical redesign like I think Moespeed? did? I can't remember. But I would still consider The Wire+ because it's already done and available. So for me it would be $500 + minimal effort and time lost vs. much much less $$$ + more effort & time to redesign the schematics. It's a road that I hope I never have to go down but it looks like many have to deal with.

Great point BC....!! NOTHING I've came across with these Big Dogs is worth the price people ask. Good example....$600-$800 for a damn sissy bar system, now is there $600 or $800 worth of materials in these...?? Hell no. But that's what we BD owners must deal with if we want to own one of the coolest scooters on the market. I will gladly give Wire Plus the $500 asking price for their goods if it will give me peace of mind when I take my Scoot out on the road, and not have to worry about having a roll back come get me. I applaude Wire Plus...until someone comes up with a more affordable fix.!!!! Sure there are enough mechanical brainiacs on this forum to come up with the same nothon as Wire Plus to market a cheaper fix for these monsters.

I am the 3rd owner and I am not gripeing about that so much as them knowing the electrical on the bikes is crap. I have it back home now. If I have to replace it I am going to get the Wire plus from Jake and fix it myself. I would check all the connections on the wires below the seat to see if they look funky, lose or just need a little TLC. The bike is down now, but back home where I can give it a go over.

Yep, $600 for a sissy bar! I wanted one where my wife could ride with me a little. She don't like the suction cups either. I come from the "Fabricating industry" and there is no way they have $600 in that little bit of chrome, maybe, and just maybe $100 total. If I can ever find one that I can get measurements off of, maybe a picture or two with a cell phone, I'll make one to fit my bike. Anything can always be made better with a little thought!

You know, I will get rid of my EHC when and IF it ever dies on me but for the life of me someone here has to explain to me where there is $500 worth of material here!!!

There is not $500 bucks worth of material here, I 100% agree, but sad to say my dog is down and that kinda looks like the direction I am headed, at least pondering the possiblities after I check everything else out.

ray, glad your ok,had a similar thing happen on the freeway in the fast lane doin 90mph,tuff gettn over to the shoulder, anyway is the starter not turning over or just not firing up.try pushn the little black button the relay under your seat it may have tripped when the wire disconnected.just a place to look.do you still have the black ehc?mobsta
I am fixing to dig into this thing and check all that out. But you know I think the best thing to do is replace the EHC with the wire plus at least I will have more confidence about getting stuck on the side of the rode again. I will probably get all this started in the process of replacing it this week. I had rather go on and correct this issue while I am into it, than get stuck or hurt riding.

Thanks,
Ray

Great News! I ditched the stock ECU and replaced it with t wire plus unit. It runs better than it did when new. The old ECU was like making a race horse breath thru a straw.
It starts immediately ( a first 4 Big Dog ) and runs like a banshee. Get one.

Ray, Big Dog gave me the run around for nearly 2 months till I finally had it towed back to my garage today!!! They were supposed to have the same system as Wires Plus bu mid October. When I called Bob Lockwood he told me this week another month or more for the BD plug and play.. I just got orders overseas for a year so I guess they will have it out by the time my deployment is up!!!! I am soooo pissed off about this that I don't know what to do. I have guys at work that can help me with the wires plus but I dont want to screw it up worse!! How hard was it and how is your bike running. I would much sooner give my money to Wires Plus that give another DIME to BD!!!!!

When I go on this site and read I remember what I like about my 04 pit. I was so disgusted with my "recall fix" I cancelled my insurance and threw a blanket over the dog in the basement. ( It stalled in traffic on the way home from the shop) Now im thinking of going wire plus or changing bars, controls, ignition switch, and chopper wiring the thing. Does anyone know if the cam sensor or the compresion releases or the speedo will be a problem?

You would think that as many people that has had problems with the EHC that there would have been a recall on it its like every one has trouble and if you haven't you will.
And they want to sell you another one of them go figure. They ought to make a fix for this and sent it out to all owners. It not like you haven't spent enough all ready. And I could go on but what the fuck.

You would think they they would send everyone out the harness.. They probally figure since wires pluss is making all the money why shouldnt they.. Should be a fucking RECALL!!!! I guess somebody has to get hurt first!

I heard that the "Clawback" terms of Big Dog's Industrial Revenue Bonds expire at the end of 2010 and they will probably evaporate.
May be interesting.
