I feel very fortunate to have Ed paint this set for me and fix the solvent pop and am really looking forward to putting the bike back together. When I get this done will take some shots. Ed has been great to work with throughout the process. Larry
Some guys have PMd me asking me about the solvent pop. Its hard to describe but it looks sort of like small white or gray specks in the paint - at first I thought it just needed a good cleaning, but no such luck. Then I thought I was being too fussy about it and the wife hardly noticed it (or at least that's what she said). When I took the tins off and had a chance to really examine them though it was clear that there was definitely something going on with the specks. When Ed saw the tins he said it was real bad. Ed indicated that this "defect" was due to the painter rushing the coats at the shop or something like that. Apparently it is most noticable on dark colors.
Solvent pops occur when the top layer of paint starts to skin trapping solvents below it.
As solvent collects and forces its way out it leaves a hole or it can also make what looks like an air bubble in the paint.
It usually occurs when the paint is applied to heavy for the temperature and reducers + catalyst used.
It also occurs when laying down multiple layers as in a muti color job and not letting each coat flash off correctly.
Flash time is the recommended amount of time between coats of paint at a certain temp with correct temp products added. It is an experience thing, something Ed obviously has plenty of...
It looks awesome!!
Wish I could lay down art like that!!!
Ed I'm saving my money and am wanting a Marine Corps theme on my 06 Pitbull. I'm continuously jotting down ideas so when I have my cash you can hook my dog up. You are the man!
Cool Paco! Just hit me up when you're ready.
Also anybody else that's been wanting some paint work, give me a shout! The summer is drying up all my work! In about a month I'll be done with all my remaining projects, and I'll be twidleing my thumbs!!!
