Real hot and humid here on the East Coast had the bike out the other day seemed like it was popping more thru the exhaust alot more then what it usually does. I was just wondering how everybody elses bikes run in extreme heat

Mine will give a cough through the carb occassionally. I guess it's stalled a couple times as I attempted to leave a traffic light, but not really any problem.

They all get hot in the summer. Temps run the 100 plus around here. I have a oil cooler on mine, not sure if it helps a great deal. But it can't hurt.

The humidity is the issue.
More water in the air and less AIR! :2thumbs:
Mostly an East Coast issue, but I'm not saying is can't happen anywhere else either.
But when you loose any sigificant amount of air that the bike is set up for. It's going to change the air/fuel mixture ratio and change the performance of any combustion engine, somewhat.

Hope this helps! :2thumbs:

PS. Brad told me to say this! :2thumbs: ......
What he said! Try adjusting your primary mixture screw a quarter turn at a time and see if it helps.

Mine was overheating on the way to Laconia. It started lugging, so I pulled over and let it cool down. I thought the oil cooler would do more to prevent this, but I guess not.

My best gauge/reality check was seeing first hand the engine temp. increase on a Mercedes I owned. I would watch the temp raise setting in traffic, or just running with the air conditioning, notability in the middle of summer. That car had about 120K miles and I decided to try Mobil 1. After I did, the car ran 20' cooler all the time, and maintained a normal temp during the hot months. I switched every thing I owned that ran on gas to synthetic based on that experience and never looked back.

Answer: My bike does well running on Mobil 1 in the hot weather. Others bike owners I know with temp gauges, using synthetic, have not noticed a difference by adding an oil cooler. The oil coolers only work when the bike is moving.......stop and go.....a good synthetic is your best bet. Secondly: avoid ride in the hot sun, it causes skin cancer :spank:

It has been 97-98 here in southeast Texas with a 105-108 heat index and I haven"t had any problems....hope it stays that way, the no problems I mean...it could cool down a bit..

Overheating and running poorly due to the heat are two totally different issues!

If it's "overheating" the oil coolers will help in this case! :2thumbs:

Hell, for that matter, if you're on the east coast, I can see where two coolers could be more effective in the summer months! :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

I disagree, I feel most of these bikes are jetted lean. Anthing less than a 33 singed the plugs in my bike at 2500 feet. I NEVER had a problem riding my bike in 100-110 degree weather with no oil cooler. I 100% agree that an oil cooler does little good without movement or a fan.

Here in Florida, I just wait for the evening hours. Down side, BUGS! Plus side, cooler air, for the rider and motor. Yes, I do have an oil cooler, I just feel that riding in 95 plus degree heat, can't be doing me or the motor any good.

Live in Florida, No oil cooler, No synthetic oil, No problems. What dead said in post #5 is most likely your problem

I'm in NH, and when it gets hot and humid, mine coughs and pops sometimes.

I don't like the extra noise the motor makes when they are hot...... Coming from a sport bike, that does not ping, and tick, and all those other noises, this drives me crazy. I thought mine was bad, then a guy on a Harley pulls up next to me and it sounded like he had marbles in his motor.

How long did it take you guys to just accept the fact that these motors make all kinds of noise when hot?

I took some of the forums advise about using the Lucas Oil additive, and it seems to help keep the motor running a little cooler.

I'm a big fan of running 2 coolers and amsoil. This combination lowered my operating temp 30 degrees and increased my oil pressure.

Yes if you are in heavy stop and go traffic the cooler wont do as much but they do help.

Also, the first year I went to laughlin and shut my bike off after sitting in heavy traffic, a lot of stop light idling my bike made a noise several times after every shut down. With the Amsoil and coolers its never done it since. I ride a lot in 110+ temps and I do take the coolers off in the winter.

I also have to run a 36 intermediate jet to get the bike to run right but I do have short pipes

Mine runs like a bat outta hell in 100% humidity 98 degree days, just like it runs like a bat outta hell on a 75 degree day with no humidity
