in all honesty, you are going to take one hell of a hit. i would say at least 45%. factors being the current condition of the company and its questionable future. the overstock of existing inventory thats still out there and the lack of dealerships. however beyond money. then i think the pleasure you get is what its about if you want it then thats enough. however to look at that investment from a practical business stand point its going to take a major hit. you are paying premium price for a product in a buyers market where the product is no longer at its peak DEMAND. such as that in lets say 2003-2005. i personally would not pay anymore than 27k + tax for any of the new models. not because its not worth it, but because i know there is no way if i paid 35k-40k, it would retain that value or anywhere near it.after the check was cashed. and if i want to blow 10k, i would rather do it in vegas where i have a chance to get it back. even though when you see the 2010 models THE BULLDOG BAGGER, WOLF OR K9 you see the msrp of 35-40k i would not be willing to pay it. better to get a leftover 2007-2008 for the 22k range, even though the wolf and bagger were not made then. so far the cheapest i have seen a wolf for was 28k. it had 2000 miles on it. this was about 4 months ago. and i thought it was a great deal. i dont blame the dealers for still trying to sell the bikes for top dollar. they are in business to profit, and they realize they have to try and get all they can while they can. there is always that guy that walks into the store and does not care about price so he/she will not be doing the research as those on this forum. its those types of customers that the dealers can count on to come in and drop top dollar, not even aware of the companies current situation nor its competitors. good luck.

Sheldon's rich, maybe he's not, market will boon, maybe not, the sun will rise, oh wait the earth might rotate...hmmm, yep your 40k bike will probably worth less tomorrow...how much less; who knows....hmm maybe baby ray knows?

You could buy a harley; hmm, didn't some rich dude give em 60+million to stay afloat longer. You could get a Yaris.

It will depreciate as soon as you drive it away from the dealership and the rate of that depreciation will certainly be greater if BDM shuts down. However, that value is only important if you plan to sell it. If it is the bike you want and are going to keep, then you need to ask yourself what it is it worth to you to have - not what it is worth to sell.

In my humble opinion.

get the best of both worlds... go buy someone's used bike that is in good shape, take advantage of the depreciation they are paying for and you still get the thrill of riding one of the best custom's available.

Your gonna take a hit, just like on a boat, snowmobile etc. After the first 100 miles you"ll forget all about it. Love my K-9. wish I would have bought one sooner.

I don't buy a bike, car or truck with the intention of selling it and getting my money back out of it. I buy a vehicle because I like it and want to enjoy it. Like others have said...you lose money as soon as you sign on the dotted line. Buy a new Big Dog and help the factory out.

Resale value is for people who are selling or buying. If you're not buying or selling, it means absolutely nothing.
If you rode a few different bikes and picked the one that really worked for you, you won't be worried about selling it.
My K9 is probably worth 60% of what I paid for it two years ago, but I haven't "lost" a dime cause I'm not selling!:2thumbs:

Im not say that it wont decrease in value as with any play toy does !! I have owned them all ...... Just allot of money to spend on something that you cannot get after market parts for ...... ya you can put something else on there but then is it what you wanted !! and Sheldon may have money but the Coleman companys new parent company kick his ass out cause he couldn't run it either !! I do Hope they survive but it will take invester monies to do it and who's going to dump 3-4 million in to a company that owes all there vendors and can't get parts unless COD and hasn't shown Blank ink for yrs !! My gut is to loss the deposit wait 6 months and buy it for 20 G ..... Just my thoughts !!

My gut tells me you should walk away from the deposit too...maybe try again later when you find your own balls to make a decision.
