Hey i everyone i have an 06 kp
9 that will run great one day and break down 10 times in 2 miles the next. what happens is that the horn will beep and the flashers go off and the bike dies. this happens about 80% of the time and the other 20% of the time the bikes horn will go off like an airraid siren and it can take 10 min or days for it to start again. does anyone out there have any ideas on what this could be? i paid the bigdog dealer in CO $125 to straighten out 2 wires they said were pinched and it was fixed. well when i picked it up i guess it was one of those days the bike rides well. but the next day i got on it it died 3 times in a 4 mile round trip. I have been told by a few peeps that it might be the ech/ecm board? the brain of the bike i would guess. is there a recall on this part? any help i can get would be awesome. dont want to have my bike in the garage sitting like a paper weight all summer. Thanks

Troy

Some people have solved the problem with a new EHC. But I am going to go out on a limb and tell you to check your battery.
Now when I say check your battery I don't mean see if it has twelve volts or is in good shape. Look at the brand, find a model number and if it doesn't supply at least 400CCAs, thats cold cranking amps, then go out and buy a battery that does. Guys have had succes with a couple different brands but I can tell you that 3 years ago when my dealer put the Harley battery Part# 65989-90B in my 06 K9 ALL, and I do mean all, my electrical gremlins went away.
Its an intricate issue with the amperage and the EHC being finnicky. SOme of the guys have solved their problem by replacing the EHC but majority have solved their electrical issues with a battery kickin more than 400CCAs

Time to do an Intro

:hi:

We always appreciate an Intro, especially when it includes:
Who you are
Are you a Family
Where you are from
What you do
What you ride currently (does not have to be a BDM), or even if you do not own a scoot at the moment, all intros are more than welcomed.
pics of the scoot (scoots), pics of you riding the bike
how long have you been riding
what else have you rode
anything else you wish to include

The more you share with us, the better the welcome will be (and we love the Intro comments and corresponding pics)

This forum is for all of us, so the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it.

If you are not sure how to accomplish this mission, just ask.

Intro :)

Well thanks for the help guys. And sorry about the lack of a good intro. First off I am out of Fort Collins Co. been riding this bike for 4 yrs now and i love my bike i just wish it would run without me worrying about it dying. I did a 4 yr hitch in the Marines back in the late 80's lots of fun there. I am married with one son who is leaning to drive now and that is a scary thing! I will post some pics later today. Thanks again

I also agree with others on checking the battery...Although, the one I went with doesn't spec at 400 CCA; it's performed well so far though and I've just bought a 2nd one for the wife's Coyote. (dealer sold me that bike with a jacked up battery new)

BBC turned me onto these while at Daytona...

thanks for the link. i have an interstate in there now that is kicking out 310. Hey Kaptin Amerika i called the local harley dealer and gave him that part # and he told me it is only kicking out 280 cca. is that the right #? i am also looking at the recal for the ehc since it says there has been one out since sept 06. there description sounds like what is going on with my bike as well. so are any of you guys going to sturgis this yr?

Troymon, they did have re-calls on these bikes. get your vin number and take it to a dealer and have them run it. if they havent been done, they had one on the EHC and some other stuff. if it hasnt been replaced, do it and the battery at the same time....Did mine and found out mine still had the original Bigdog Battery in it from 06...4 years of life on that battery was great!

That sounds about right for the Harley Battery. Still, it's a good battery and a lot of folks here use it.

Braille Battery....425 CCA.....#B2015.....that's what I have in my 08 K9. Fantastic battery. You need to keep your bike on a battery tender when it's not being ridden. Makes a world of difference.

I'm usin the Harley Bat and have had no problems with the 280 amp. Always keep it on a bat tender. Not kickin your stuff but have not heard or seen very much good about the Interstate bat. Again jus sayin.

Welcome

my dad had problems with the interstate and went back to his original battery. I still have my original battery from Oct 06 and no problems. I will get a braille when I need it.

i went through (2) brand new interstate batteries in less than a week. both of them left me stranded. IMHO, they are shit. nothing but re-badged off shore crap with less than 270 cca.
