I have an 05 Big Dog Mastiff. i was riding it last Saturday and out of no where the bike just shut off, when i say shut off i mean no nothing was working no lights no nothing. I let it sit for like a half hour or so and tried to fire it back up. when i turned my key on the speedometer needle started jumping and the gauge lights started blinking then died again. I removed the seat and looked at the EHC there were no lights on. I took my battery out and tested it it had 11.4 volts im thinking the battery might be bad but im also going to do a load test it to be sure, but my question is is if all the lights are out on my EHC does this mean the EHC is bad??? now i have a lizard light kit that wired directly to the + and - terminals on the battery and when the bike was down i turned the lights on to see if they worked and the came on then dimmed the went bright then dimmed and so on so im thinking the battery might be going bad or the EHC ??? any suggestions

Battery voltage is very low like the others have indicated.

I seriously doubt it will be any good on a load test, sorry.

The EHCs do very strange stuff when the batteries get low, and the extra load of the Lizard Lights doesn't help matters.

I'd recommend that you invest in a Braille or Big Boar Battery for your existing usage conditions! It'll help things out a lot! :2thumbs:

after you get a new fully charged bat, check the voltage with the bike running to make sure you're gettin a good charge back just over 14 volts. also has your bike had the upgrade done that removes the circuit breaker and you install a fuse on the voltage regultor side? That was a recall/upgrade on 05 and some 06 bikes depending on the voltage regultor ID number. V

I dropped my battery off at my buddys shop he charged it all night and it only took 11.4 volts and he said the load test was horrable so it's true guys my battery is shot so I'm gonna buy a new battery today I was told a jell battery is the way to go so that's what I'm gonna install. Then I'm gonna check to see if the mag is puttin voltage to the battery hopefully I'll read 14. Something let's hope. But you all are awesome I'm gettin totally into this forum stuff I'll keep ya all posted.

You will get alot of opinions here but I just put the HD battery in mine and its far better than anything I have used to date.

Check ALL of the wire CRIMP terminals at the + & - battery posts. Pull on the wires to make sure the crimps are tight and recrimp or replace them if needed. Loose crimps will cause erratic EHC behavior.

Thanks

Yo thanks guys so much i replace the battery and all good i think i had like 14. something i put in the new battery. I also put in a new tach board and thats workin now also. but it was weird when i put in the new battery, at first just my high beam worked and would stay on when i hit the low beam switch the light went off then the high beam went back on. so i was riding it to my buddys shop to have hime check it out and on the way there it started working right. I think the ehc had to reset itself what do you all think. So once again my big dog is runnin 100%.

Thanks again everyone :2thumbs:

Oh and i will have some pics up shortly

Even a new bat will have lost some juice while sitting on the shelf waitin for a new owner. Keep that bike on a bat tender:2thumbs:
