Considering a Big Dog

Hello guys,

Been looking at Harleys and Big Dogs for a while now and will probably make a decision this upcoming week.

I want to hear from anyone that knows about the 2008 Mutt.
How is it for city riding - highway riding - reliability - etc. Is it just for head-turning or could I put in a good day of 200 miles as I did today on an HD V-rod.

I would take the bike to Europe with me so the lack of BGM parts and experienced mechanics there :down: continues to keep the Harley as a very strong contender.

How often do you have your bike in the shop? What kind of miles do y'all put on them and in what kind of time? What is the most frequent part to "fall off"?

Bikes that are more or less in my price range are:
2006 Mastiff 3100 miles
2008 Mutt 100 miles
2008 Mutt 900 miles
2005 Chopper softail 200 miles
2008 Pitbull 0 miles (but only if the dealer comes down on price)

Quick responses - anything - is appreciated as I will also look at two modded V-rod muscles from the HD line-up tomorrow.

Love my bike. Some models have some issues, but nothing that isn't fixable. There's lots of threads asking about reliability. Check them out.

if you do some reading on this site you will find that many ppl have these bikes all over the world!! ya they break but.......... if you can some how find how many hd broke last yr you would prolly would be questioning there ridability as well!! until this past week no problems now... prolly a new starter and grip but i will never trade for a HD!!! Iv rode ALL day and no problems!!! there are ppl on this site that have 65000+ mi on there dogs they will last if you take care of them!!!

i believe the iron butt award on here is somewhere over 1200 miles in 18 hrs. 200 miles in a day is just bar hopping.

if you continue to read through the forums you will find that mostly everyone will have tiny little issues here and there,the bigger issues are far and few between and even without Big dog dealers service department all is fixable withing your garage.....or from a local tech......

I was looking into the whole dealer thing in Europe as well. There is a dealer in Paris and one in Munich for sure. Those would be the closest to the possible bases I would be going to in Europe, if i went. I just got a great deal on a PITBULL myself and think I made a great choice. I have had Harley and Victory before now and they always turned into a money pit trying to make them into something more eye catching. The Dog's already are right from the start. Good Luck.

What everyone else said hear......I would add the only BD model that seems out of place would be the 2008 Pitbull....a hard tail. Some swear by them but a little to hard on my ass and back. The Chop in the mix, a different ride than the pro-street style Mutt and Masstiff. The two Mutts being the newest in the custom category. I think you'll find most of us here like to run in a different pack than the all too common HD's. The V-rod is a beast, but to me it is just another sport bike. Good Luck

I bought an 08 Mutt in January and put 1500 miles on it since. Last year I did a demo ride weekend and rode all of the models at least once. Being 5'9" and weighing 148 lbs the K9 and the Mastiff were too much for me to handle. I liked the Coyote feel the best. And with twin boys in college the price of the Mutt was just what I was looking for. Ride all of the different models and then take your pick. I am still smiling 4 months later.

What he said!!! Get the pitbull; its as bad as it's reputation. But I am bias, seeings how this was my first and only.:flag:
