Thanks for the info. Where is the external ignition located at on my K-9? what would it take to replace the thunder heart ignition with a twin tec external ignition??

The crank sensor is located on the front of the motor.
Do you have an '06 wiring diagram?

Your EHC handles a lot more than just your ignition. All your handlebar controls and lights go through it. It also provides diagnostic indications for different types of electrical failures.

That being said, most 3rd party ignition systems do not totally replace your EHC, just the ignition portion which should get you home if the EHC fails.

I had to add a Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor (MAP) to my 05 Bulldog when installing the S&S IST ignition system a couple years ago. The EHC is still installed but just handling the lights and handlebar controls without any problems.

BDMRidgidback is a member here and sells a popular complete replacement for the EHC that seems to be working well for those that have installed it.

Thanks for all the info and getting me up to speed... Sounds like ill be keeping the EHC to run the lights, etc but I need to install a MAP sensor so that I can wire up the Twin Tec ignition. HDLARRY, where did you buy the MAP sensor for your 05 Bulldog?? Is that a BDM or a HD part?? Thanks again.

The sensor is a BDM part.
I'd either think about buying a used set of '07 or newer pipes with the location already prepared for the sensor.
or
You can just weld on the right size nut, to accept the sensor, and re-chrome.

Read Larry's post again, the map sensor comes with the S&S IST ignition system. If you are goint to install the Twin Tech ignition and it requires a map sensor they should provide you with one. The the S&S IST ignition system requires a Map Sensor and it comes with the kit.

I have an the S&S IST ignition system that I never installed on my 06 Mastiff. If you are interested I will sell it to you for $575.00 shipped. I paid $ 628.00, still new in the box has all that is required for installation including the Map Sensor, or I can sell you the Map Sensor for $575.00 and throw in the rest of the kit. :lol:
