You may look at them as dumb-ass replies...........but their truthfull.

He's only looking at minority ownership sales because NO ONE is interested. Bike sales have taken a shit.

Why do you think he didn't disclose sales numbers?

You really didn't expect him to come out and give you 100% of the facts........

Hopefully the company can stay afloat, there's nothing else out there right now than can give certain types of people like us what they want.

Respectfully, I totally disagree. Sheldon said their production has been down and that they are only making made-to-order bikes right now... no surprise. The whole world knows American V-Twin sales are in the crapper.

The comments are dumbass comments because they talk about how shitty the product is, so yesterday, unreliable, and all that crap.

Your reply is, with all due respect, on the verge of being in that same category as well because you make no point other than to say what Sheldon already said - sales are in the crapper and they are searching for a way out.

Good luck to 'em

I hope this is not an off question, but if Big Dog where to go under how would one go about getting replacement parts for things that break? I figure you would be able to get motor parts from S&S and tranny parts from Baker, but what about the cables, controls, electrical, etc... Would an after-market company take over that kind of stuff or would we be stuck out?

Lots of Harley rides despise these bikes more than they despise metric bikes. I've seen it first hand, b/c they are threatened that Harley will take a hit. This is unlikely as Harley has a ridiculous following, but their comments are that of a typical Harley rider. I hate to stereotype, but it is what it is.

These bikes do have their problems..I know that first hand, but to me, nothing else on the market fills the gap that Big Dog would leave with their large line of "custom production" type of bikes.

This does make me a little nervous as I am about to buy an 10' Bulldog from Strokers in Dallas. I guess I am looking for honest opinions. If any of the riders here were in my position and with the state of the BDM Co as it is these days, would yall still buy a Big Dog? I have owned HD and Victory but those purchases were all cuz I could not afford what I really wanted, a BDM. Now with my reenlistment bonus I can. I wanted to get my first bagger but just can’t see myself on that boxy CVO Street Glide. When I first saw the Bulldog I knew it was what I wanted. I would appreciate any advice.

I bought my first Big Dog('99 Bulldog) back in the spring of '99 from a young company with no guarantee of the company staying in business. I never regretted my decision
and at that time the bikes were being sold on a as ordered basis more or less. I read about the company in a magazine, called and spoke directly to Sheldon if I am not mistaken to place a order for a bike I had never seen except in a magazine. I just bought my second Big Dog ('09 K9) last month, and once again I don't regret it and I love this bike!
I have gotten negative comments about being a "WANNA BE HARLEY RIDER" from the harley crowd and I simply respond that I have been riding since before they were born and that I could have bought 2 of their bikes if that was what I wanted instead of my bike. Then comes the RUB (rich urban biker) comments, I think it boils down to their loyalty to the brand regardless! When Harleys went through a spell of very poor quality, there were the loyal followers that still bought these bikes even thouht they knew of their problems. And Harley has seen major financial woes in my lifetime also. I hope the best for our company, and this is where my loyalty lies. Live your dream EZ$.

All great points. Believe me, when I got the Victory my family let me hear it to no end and this won’t be any different. That has never nor will it ever effect my decision. As far as the RUB, pssh..I’m probably unwisely spending every bit of my military bonus on this baby so no worries there. It's just a good thing my wife loves bikes and riding as much as I do so she didn’t even question the purchase. lol Having thought about it a little longer, I still think I will press on with the Bulldog. Love the look and there really isn't another bagger on the market that I would even think of buying. Thanks Bowhunter

You are welcome EZ$, life is shorter than you think, do what you want to do while you can do it. I have spent a lot of money going to Alaska, Canada, etc. hunting and I would not change a thing given the opportunity to turn back the hands of time. I have memories that no one can take away from me and I am enjoying life as I go. Good luck with the Bulldog, I considered that bike when I bought the K9. You are lucky to have a wife that shares your passion.

That is a good question. The only problem is we just don’t know the answer to that question yet. Like you said we can get most motor parts from S&S and Trany parts from Baker. But you can also get your brake parts from Performance Machinery "Calipers, Pads, Hoses, Rebuild Kits etc. Cables can also be purchased from most Harley shops. Some electrical can be purchased through Thunder Heart or you can upgrade to a Wires Plus Kit. But the proprietary stuff like the controls, bars etc will be hard to find till someone picks up the after-market business.

I agree with Kool! :2thumbs:

That's like asking the question, "What will we all do for food when all the grocery stores close up"?

With that type of mentality, you'll STARVE!......:lol::lol:

Just remember. "If there is as will, there is a way"! :2thumbs:

Just like in the days of old when people had to be creative, improvise and use their imaginations to work things out for the better! :2thumbs:

God gave you a head to use for something other than a "Hat Rack", right? :2thumbs:

Ez, buy the dog !

Livin downhere in Mexico, is hard for us get a bike like these, fees and taxes are like 35% of the bike value. So you can imagine that when we want to sell em its nearly impossible, also, no parts (even HD) arund here.
BUT
Despite the looks and all the comnpliments i get, my bike is DA BIKE i have always dreamt of!
BDM will make it? I really hope so, they wont? I dont care, i would have a piece of legacy in my garage!

EZ$,

FWIW, I have ridden HD for years, my last being an '05 Heritage Softail Classic. I have always wanted a "Chopper". I kept pouring $$ into customizing the HD. Even so, everytime I went to a biker event, I always found myself lusting over the chopper type bikes. I finally realized that no matter how much money I put into the HD, it would never be a chopper. That being said, I sold the Harley and purchased my '04 BDM Chopper. I have never been happier since. I don't care what the "flavor of the week" people say, my bike gets attention wherever I go!(I'd like to think it's me, but NOT!). These bikes are hotrods compared to the HD's and thusly, need a bit more attention. So what? Look at the payoff!
Maybe we can meet at Stroker's sometime and I'll buy you a cocktail. Good luck!

Paul,
That never ending money pit sounds just like what happened to me and my HD Deuce. I gave up on it too. I will take you up on that drink sometime in Aug when I go pick up my bike. I am finishing up the paperwork on the bike next week and then Rick is going to store it for me until I get home. We will be all over TX that month as I also have to go to Bullard, TX to buy my daughter her big dog. A new puppy. hehe

I wouldn't worry about it. IF they do close down Big Dog, the warranties will still be covered and parts will be available, they always are, and that is if someone doesn't buy them out at a DEEP discount and open it back up. This is not to mention the fact that you are buying from one of the most respected in the industry and Strokers will take care of you if you ever have a problem. I bought my Pit there a little over a month ago and they have taken care of me with everything I needed. If you don't mind, who are you dealing with up there?
