I just message BDM to find out if their were any recalls or anything else on the bike, and if their anything in the system about the bike to get a copy of the report and this is what I got.

I presume you purchased this bike at an auction?
I have no service history on the bike.
Did you receive a title or an MSO?

WHAT THE HECK DOES THIS MEAN?

What did you send BDM.
I presume you sent the project number off the neck of the bike.
The MSO is a Manufactures Statement of Origin or "certificate" of origin.
I assume it is like the title in some cases.

I would think they are saying it has not been serviced at a BDM dealership. Just give them a call to clarify everything. Get the number off of the website or do a search on this site to get it and speak to them. I am sure they would be happy to explain or expand the issue if needed.
The project number is on one side of the neck and the vin# on the other I think.

Sounds like some really good customer service there!:lol::lol:

They can pull up the service history of the bike using the VIN#. DUH! (them) :loony:

That's how all of the dealers do it. :2thumbs:

When you contact them again, just remind them that you really liked their previous customer service tactics of being rude and ignorant! :argue::loony:

Then ask them if they are planning on being in business "next week"?......

in my opinion and its just my opinion. Those that are planning to purchase these types of bikes such as BIG DOGS ,AMERICAN IRONHORSE, REDNECK ENGINEERING ETC.. need to be aware that lots of dealerships have closed and have liquidated inventory, there have also been lots of bank repos from these dealers. Big Dog as a company has made a major downsizing in its staff and the company is still for sale and its future in ??. so the point i am trying to make is if you purchase one of these bikes you are pretty much on your own. although there is a 2 year warranty in effect on Big Dogs. there are issues in the records. such an example is the above post. so recalls, warranty issues, troubleshooting and dealership support will not be as great as it was when the business was thriving. however i am not suggesting that a person not purchase such a bike. i am just suggesting that when you buy one, have it in the back of your head that you are on your own, and have to learn to fix things yourself and check the bike out yourself. i think this will fix a lot of potential headache and frustration a lot of new owners get once they purchase the bike. i am shopping for a new big dog and my attitude once i purchase it is that its mine, no warranty and whatever happens to it i have to solve it. although this may not be the fact, due to a 2 year warranty. i still operate under that mentality because of the lack of dealerships and the small staff at the company. they are great bikes and personally i think are very easy to troubleshoot and figure out. i find more peace in fixing it myself anyway. but thats just me. good luck.

Tell us more

where did you buy it from and how many miles are on it?

It sounds like they did run the vin and nothing came up so maybe there really are not any records for it.

They should have answered the part about recalls

They are basically saying that bike has had NOTHING done to it by a BDM dealer or service center...as there is no history on it. They weren't being rude or ignorant, as they gave you what they had, and it is not their fault that the previous owner didn't do anything with the bike.

You might want to start playng catch-up on your recalls and services though...

It does sound like they have no history of service, TSB or Recalls done on this vehicle nor showing that it was ever sold to you. Possibly bad records on BDM part or good chance that the dealer or whomever you got it from never did forward the records of your purchase to BDM.

Have you ever had it serviced by a BD Dealer. Good luck

My biggest thing was the way they said you must had bought it from a auction. I figure they would knew where the big was. It was a left over 08 I bought from Xtreme Cycles in SC. it had less than 200 miles on it. Someone on the forum hooked me up and ran the VIN and does show the proper info on it. My next thing is I'm wondering since the dealer put accessories on it does that show on the records so they would be cover under warranty and if there are any recalls out there?

I would be willing to bet that BDM is getting hammered with all sorts of unusual situations with the state of BDM and the economy. JMO but I would send them a copy of your sales receipt, title/mso and any other documentation you might have. With the amount of distressed dealers, eBay sales and inventory auctions. ect. taking place I’m sure this is a confusing time for BDM.

BDM history records don't necessarily show where accessories have been added and they don't fall under the vehicles warranty.
The service history only shows where service, repairs and/or Service Bulletins or Recalls "have" been done, not the ones that "need to be performed". The Service Bulletins and Recalls are sent to the dealers as they come out from BDM. It's the responsibility of the dealer to keep a record of these items, so that they my research them for your bike.
Sadly to say, many times the ball get dropped in this area by many of the BDM dealers.

Here's a little help:

http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/t...ervice-bulletins-2008-updated-jan-9-10-a.html

There is not too many problems with the '08s, unlike some of the earlier years.

Also you can PM "BikerDream", a BDM dealer on here and ask him to run you off a print out of your bikes history record. :2thumbs:

I'm sorry, but I I still say that BDMs answer to this mans question was rude and ignorant! This is no way for any manufacture to replay to a customers question.

It's a simple question that anyone would like to know the answer too. Why bring up "auction", or "it doesn't have any history record"? That's BS!
Anybody that's dealt with BDM knows that the first thing on the history record is the RI (Receipt Inspection of the dealer from the factory), then any of the Recalls and/or Service Bulletins that "may" need performing prior to selling!

The dealer is responsible for getting that info to BDM so they must have dropped the ball for some reason.

Ya know, we've all had this conversation before. I think it was about an exhaust manufacturer.

Gixxbynight, you have to be on dope or dog food if you think it's acceptable for a dealership to treat you like shit. So, you purchase a $20K+ bike and you say you're on your own? That's total bullshit!!! :job: Customer service is what makes a dealership. Dreams of Atlanta and many more are prime examples of what customer service should be. Sure, there are some shitty dealerships out there that only want your money, but there are others that know what they're doing and they do it for you. Just because business sucks is no reason to be an asshole. On the contrary! With everyone experiencing the same depression, it's time to step it up a notch in customer service and get the business that other dealerships run off. I know I used to drive an extra 80 miles to take my boat motor to a guy that was honest and dependable and knew what the hell he was doing. Bank repos doesn't have a thing to do with BDM. They don't finance. That's the banks problem and since the government now owns most of them, who gives a shit? In short, customer service is alive and well. Sometimes you just have to look a little harder to find it. :whoop:
