Oil Blow-by?

Just changed my oil in the 05 Chopper I just purchased. Drained the engine, let sit over night, drained some more. Did not do the scavenge kit to get the remainder of the dirty oil out (will from now on). Added 3 qts. Bike ran great in the garage, took it for a ride, it seemed to be backfiring. Looked down, and the whole right side of my bike was covered in oil!! Took off air cleaner-----which was soaked in oil. Ran it with the air cleaner off, and could see oil still coming out of the cylinder vent tube.
What am I doing wrong here?

Please help!!

The problem is "NOT" blow-bye. :nono::zzdisappointed::nonod:

Have you ever heard the term, it's a "dry sump system"?

These aren't crotch rockets, nor Briggs & Strattons either.

Try draining the, NOW excess, :zzdisappointed::nonod::loony:, oil from the oil "TANK" of the system, not just the engine case.

Taking it to the shop just "might" be a good idea for you next time. :2thumbs: j/k

Spot. Please don't let these guys scare you off. Its an honest mistake. Please drain the oil bag. The plug on the bottom of the motor is not the one you need to drain from.

Please see my "how to" in that section on "how to service your big dog". That should clear up any confusion on ur side of the keyboard.

Spot,
Don't lead Dead worry you. He can be such a smartass. :job: Before he was introduced to John Sachs, the only thing Dead could change was his mind, and he had a lot of problems finding that. :loony:

Come on back and chat. I won't let that bad puddy cat bother you no mo.

Gas is such a "Sweet Guy" here, isn't he fellas? :2thumbs:

Gotcha!

:D:2thumbs::cheers:
Well the guy made a big yet understandable mistake. This is the perfect example as to why I make the how to's. Some people make fun of some of them, cause they seem trival to them. But they aren't. You can't take forgranted that not everybody is mechanically inclined and knows his/her way around a bike.

This for example... every car I've ever been around drains off the bottom of the motor. SO you can understand the confusion.

The guy will already feel like an ass for fouling up so bad. He should also expect some razzing out of it. But bottom line is... live and learn. At least he didn't lay the bike down when he decided to oil treat his back tire while riding. No harm, no foul.

OK OK... so I guess I am feeling a bit nice today...

Anybody want to chime in the reason he chose the word "spot" in his screen name??

WOW!
What a warm welcome to the new site!:2thumbs:
It's cool guys-----I have PERFECTED the fine art of laughing at myself. It was a stupid mistake, and you are exactly right----The EPA would be very unhappy about what went on at my house the last 24 hours:lol:
And yes, I was on my way this morning to the garage to drain all my oil (from the tank), and ran to Auto Zone for another 3 qts of fresh.
Bottom line is bike is back on the road, and it is 80 and sunny here today. I joined here to learn from you guys, and the smart-ass style is actually something I enjoy recieving and giving:2thumbs:
Thanks for the help guys. I look froward to posting my future stupid mistakes.

Cheers:cheers:

PS. Is not oil spot, although that would have been appropriate today.
I have three white birthmarks in my hair, which ahve always given a nick-name.

Gas is right. :2thumbs:

All of us here have made our own mistakes over time and shouldn't been taken so seriously towards our ribbing of Spot here. :nono:

At least Spot showed up here and ask the question of what's wrong. :2thumbs:

Which is a lot more than I can say for some others here that will remain nameless. Oh WTF, Brad! :lol::lol:

Now this man would even try to "self" perform open heart surgery before he even knows how to properly apply a "Band-Aid"! Then when the patient is in risk of dieing he'd ask, "What?, Did I do something wrong"?

:zzdisappointed::crazy::loony:..Only Brad! :nonod: "Poor Rocky, she deserves so much Better"! :2thumbs:.....:lol::lol:

I wonder about that Brad sometimes. :skep:

Spot you'll be fine here as long as you watch out for that Brad guy! :2thumbs:

:D:cheers:

What oil did you buy?

I hope it carriers the right specs for your air cooled v-twin.
