Oil plug Stuck!

I was changing my oil for the first time. "dealers have done it for me in the past, but I am beyond that situation now" anyway, I was removing the hydrolic oil filter plug, as shown in Gas man's link, but on my 03 mastiff it is a straight screw head. It appears too tight, I cannot get it to break free and I am affraid I will strip the head out. I am thinking of drilling it out and then just replacing the plug with one that accepts a socket, like in Gas man's pic. Or is there some other technique I can use. Heat, or anything. Plus it wasn't easy to drain the oil out with the plug still in there either. Looking for help!

STOP........ DONT DRILL IT.. use another method to remove.. use a impact driver to remove if needed.. use the type that you use a hammer to hit it not a compressed air..

you dont have to drain the crankcase with every oil change as per s/s.i know i will get chit for saying that but thats what s/s told me and im sticken to it,drain the oil tank

my 04 has a regular nut,make sure your on the right one,they may have changed it in 04

What tool are you using to remove it? There is a special tool just for that.

and they are correct. DO NOT drill it out!!

Nothing is impossible, just hard sometimes. The right tool makes your life so much easier. Just a little of advise, get help (like you are doing here), and don't proceed if it doesn't make sense or feel right. You are doing the right thing. Good luck.

Sometimes a "drag link" socket can be used. It looks like a screw driver socket but the blade end is typically 3/4" or wider. But if you're gonna buy one you would be better off to buy the tool desiged for the plug.

Thanks to all, I have ordered the tool to remove it and got the replacement plugs with allens to replace them. I feel that screwdriver looking plug just didnt do it for me.

A bolt to drain the crank case – I thought tools like the "Scavenger" was the better/only tool that allows you to do this – any other ideas, please share.

I agree mobsta. I've never pulled a motor drain plug in any of my bikes. Our motors are not wetsump. :2thumbs:
