Trip OD Reads Wrong

I went for a ride this nice "false" Spring day and noticed my trip odometer indicates a mile after going only approx. one tenth of a mile. This is the first time this has happened. I tried resetting it several times, but that doesn't correct the problem. The total odometer appears to be reading correctly. I use the trip OD to approx. fuel usage so it's important that it read correctly. My bike is a 2008 K-9 with only 2600 total miles.

Has this happened to anyone else and what's the fix? A new speedo? Thanks for suggestions.

On my newest speedometer I have two trip odometers.....Push the button once for the first reading and push the button again for the second reading, when you push the button for the third time, your back to the total milage. You should have the new style also. Are both of the trip odometers reading wrong?

Whistler,

I know you've been having some issues with your dog so please don't take this "just a thought" the wrong way - are you sure it's not reading one tenth of a mile (.1) ?

good luck

LOW AND BEHOLD!!! I put my reading glasses on this morning and the trip OD is now working fine and reading in tenths of a mile. Wonder how putting on my glasses fixed the trip OD? Mystery to me?

Thanks Dingo. HA HA on me. After my ride yesterday I complained about the trip OD problem to my wife. I think I'll keep my mouth shut about the glasses.
Ride safe.

Im having the same problem. Odometer went from 4600 t0 8900 on a 200 mile ride. Speedometer was also off by 20 miles then it quit working all together. Took it apart and resoldered the ground wire on the speedo. Still have the screwed up odometer reading. Any ideas????

could be switched to kph instead of mph by accident. believe it tells how to swap back and forth in the owners manual.

:spank:Get some glasses. The ones that go on your face. No beer glasses. Did you have a beer before reading your OD? jk :eek:

I'll have to agree with Tom on this. Somehow, I did the same thing to my bike. Can't remember the procedure but I can look it up if you like. Changing MPH to KPH and vice-versa.

Not sure if the 03 works like the 05, but hold the button on the front of the speedometer while turning your key on and continue to hold until the dash lines become numbers. This will change from MPH to KPH and back again.

I take it you're back to around 4600 miles again? I thought the same shit first time it happened to me. Couldn't believe I had put so many miles on that bike. :job: Can't quite remember who, but someone on here helped me. Glad it helped you in return.

Now, go get a manual!!!!!!!!:rant::rant::rant:

Maybe this is what is wrong with mine. We went on a 400 plus ride last Sunday but my trip odo had me way above that, no wonder when i put gas in at 150 miles it only held 1.5 gallons. I can't wait to get home and try this.

I wouldn't bitch about going 150 miles on 1.5 gallons of gas. At least it sounds good.
No bitching lol just want to make sure I am not racking up miles on my odo that I didn't ride. I've seen guy's on here saying they are out of gas at 150 miles so I was starting to think my was a hybrid model. lol
