Does this sound correct? Does the charging voltage rise only with increased RPM's? Still troubleshooting the starter thing. Starter has tested good out of the bike, battery tested good for CCA's, when I do the jumper thing to manually get the starter to go it seems like the battery does not have enough kick to get it there. Is this a possible VR issue? Compression release? I am at my wits end on this thing.
Thanks

That is not enough. If you look at my speedo How To on flashing the EHC you will see my "Battery Bug" showing 13.8-14 volts at idle.
I would suspect the VR.

This is probably an unnecessary question but you have checked the circuit breaker, right? It's not popped and if not has continuity as tested with a meter?

If the battery is fully charged when you try this but still seems weak I'd look at the compression releases.

You can check you alterantor also by unplugging the VR at alternator and starting the engine. Plug the voltmeter leads into the stator plug terminals. Set the meter to AC volt setting. Once the meter is set start the engine and note the AC voltage on the meter. It will vary a little because the engine idle RPM jumps around, For 2005 the voltage should be about 20 volts AC at id1e. The voltage will increase as thc RPM increases. If the reading is low or it does not increase much with rpm then suspect the rotor is bad. The open circuit voltage can reach over 100 volts AC if the engine
is running fast enough. When doing, this test, do not touch the meter leads.
A hazard of being shocked is present when measuring AC voltage

My VR went out last week and the dealer said that a BD VR is around $300. The mechanic said he could get me an aftermarket one for less, then he called me back to say all the suppliers are out of stock...WTF??? SO, here is my question. What type of VR can I use for an 07 Mastiff? I realize it needs to be a series type, but what has the right hookups with a long enough wire to get to the circuit breaker?

Call Beezer. He'll set you up. I installed one on Dave's bike in the fall.

I have a brand new VR for an 04 Chopper if interested Pretty sure it's universal. Ordered it just to find out the day before it came that it wasn't what was causing my problem. Was told no returns on electrical parts so here it sits.

somebody is blowing smoke. I just bought one from a dealer for about $150 bucks. It wires right up to the ckt breaker, which I eleiminated with a 40 amp fuse from DK.
