Am I losing my mind at 47..... The battery on the Pitbull is reading 20-21 VDC without being on a tender and without the ignition on....WTF???? Could this be the battery having an internal short circuit?

After 30 years, I did that first thing. On the 20 V setting it blanks it due to over voltage, on 200 VDC it reads around 21 VDC...???

200 VAC Sure, but 200 VDC? Never heard of that.

Is the battery in your meter good?

Sounds like somethings wrong with the meter, try another meter. 200 volts dc would blow everything up on your bike.

Well there are applications where large voltages are provided DC vs. AC

You are correct G Dog. My meter has a 20 a 200 and 500 VDC setting. What is your reading from the pos terminal to ground?

Not to argue,

One of my meters goes from 2 VDC to 2000 VDC, but that's not the point here. A 12 VDC battery "CANNOT" produce 200 VDC unless it being multiplied through a x-former.

Something else is wrong here.

This is true. I thought he was saying that his meter was set to the 200 vdc setting and that he was reading like 21 vdc. My bad.

G,
Which headlamp plug do you have, the glossy black plug or the dull black plug with gray specks in it?

Also what does the headlamp Black wire "connector" inside the plug look like and the terminal on the bulb socket it attaches too, any dark coloration to either?

You are exactly right!!! Without a step up transformer, this could not occur!
You are also correct in your troubleshooting steps. I looked at the meter again and see a low battery indicator. At the same time I found my good meter and the voltage is right at 14 VDC.
The news gets better, check my other thread on the headlight problem.
