I have a 04 Mastiff, I contacted BDM about my cam and was told I have a .600 cam from the factory, I had heard rumors that early 04 bikes may have a .600 cam, mine has a low production number 75. has anyone else heard this about .600 cam in early 04 bikes.

No,but when I bought my 07' K-9 the dealership said they could put a .600 or a .640 in and it would not void the warranty...then at the 500 mile service...I was told by another BD dealer that it would void all the warranty???? I wish all the dealers would get on the same page!! (then told I would need to change ignitions)

Welcome to Big Dog Biker S&S, I know they came with .600 then shifted to a "EPA" cam later. My 03 had a .600 in it.

Later,
Ray

It definitely legally voids your warranty. They aren't going to know it's in there unless you have valvetrain problems.

Our local mechanic told me (while he was doing it) that just putting on the D&M filter would void the warranty - but then he smiled and said he'd put the original one back on if it ever became an issue. Meanwhile, our most excellent warranty claims person does not consider it to be a problem. I suspect there's some room for interpretation by the dealers, and what they choose to include in the report.

Very true..........mine said they would back me but that was long ago with a whole different crew. I don't know that I would have a leg to stand on at this point.

NO and do tell!

Yes I believe all the 2004's had the 600 cam and 640 springs. It was 05 that went to the super E carb, restrictor plates, and the 569 cam. 06 went back to the super g, lost the restrictor plates but still shitty cam.

I don't think it's a shitty cam! Gets great gas mileage, offers lots of lower end and gives you what you need for a daily driver.

I THINK A REJET WOULD BE IN SITE FOR A FAILURE 05chop

US Code Title 15 Chap 50.

I may be envoking it.

Also know as Federal Lemon law enforces warranty on any product value over $20 where the manufacturer has a written warrany. With BDM it's agreement for arbitration / mediation.

PS - I had to go through 4 exhaust sytems under warranty. When I called BDM one of the first things the people in legal asked me as "Did you change the cams?" Interesting....

How do I find out which cam is in my 04 chopper RT?
I bought mine used.
The owners manual was not filled out.
Can I check?
Other than taking out the cam?
Maybe the numbers on the bike?

Might be a dumb set of questions, But I would like to find out If I can.
Thanks.

Under that act they have to PROVE your added part caused the failure. If you put on a air filter and the fork tubes start leaking they obviously can't prove one did the other. However, if that filter causes a lean fuel mixture and the motor goes....you own it.

I sent an email on the customer service link at the BDM website, I send them my VIN # and told them I was the owner of the bike. I had to send two emails, but I got a response. They seem a little uptight about giving out info/specs.
