battery tender question.

i have searched the threads on tenders but none answered my question.

so im looking at all the different tenders from 20 to 75 bucks. im guessing i need one that will charge a 12v at 2 amps...i see the cheap ones that do just that, and then im looking one that cost a little more that will aslo do 10 amps and 50 amps for quick start. my question is, is the 50amp quick start safe for our bikes? guy at shop couldnt answer. just wondering if its worth the extra money to have this if i need it. yes i understand if its on the tender, why would i ever need a jump...but you never know. but i jumped it off my truck the other day and dont want to do that again. thanks.

These work just fine to keep your charge up and all you would ever need for the dog.... If the charge is full you will never need a jump.

I think all of them do a pretty decent job. I have the Battery Tender Jr and bigger one. I carry the Jr. on road trips.

but my question is, is the 50amp start safe to jump the bike with? i may just get the 'better' one incase the truck needs jumped or somthing. but i would like to know if it would be ok to use on the bike.

I can't answer that but I have a 50 amp Sears charger and even though it has a 2 amp switch I sure as hell am not putting it on my bike.

Mine's a 1.5 amp performance tender from O'Reilly's.

It was about $30.

Hello bro,, get the tender, its worth its weight...batteries last longer,if you are like me and don'r ride everyday and sometime a month at a time... its worth it ,,you won't regret it. i got mine at the harley dealer...i am sure they all work..

I would suggest that you DO NOT jump the battery with anything to try and start your bike, unless it's a dire necessity! :nono:

By doing so may possibly cause irreversible damage to your EHC. Not A Good Thing! :down:

I suggest that you buy both, if you need or want to do both! :2thumbs:

I remember talking to the parts guy at the Harley/BDM dealership in Baton Rouge. He said the tenders that charge from 1.5 to 1.8 amps are best. He said that 2.0 was too much for a tender, but that's just his opinion, not mine. I think I have the 1.5 from O'Reilly's and a 1.5 from HD.

I let it sit for a couple of weeks this past fall and needed ta start it so I could go on a last ride and i jumped it with the 60amp still works???? I wouldnt recommend doing it all the time but it worked for me
