Okay I just had my bike in for the 5K service about 6 weeks ago at Full Throttle Motorsports in Lansing Michigan. Ending up spending a little over 2 grand there at the time.
They did my service that they could charge ME for but didn't bother to check the Voltage Regulater like I asked them to.....So then when my clutch cable broke and I went to the Tampa store to get the cable fixed they said do you want us to check the voltage regulator for the recall...I just said naaaah don't worry they just checked it a couple weeks ago. Well sure enough, I notice the battery not seeming to take from the battery tender, so I go buy a new battery. I have it put in and sure enough that battery is dead by the next morning. I have to have it towed in to the closest service center (NOT A DEALER) called Central Florida Choppers here in Orlando. They tell me OH didn't you have it checked, you have one of the recalled VR's. Not being a dealer they didn't have one in stock and when they called Big Dog they said anything but their own would void my warranty.... So I paid to have one shipped overnight and sure enough they get the Ice Storm....
Damn, I can't seem to win.....But I am back on the road, just got the bike back this morning and all seems right with the world again.....

But I bet they have to replace if the VR is junked... they just aren't replacing them if they aren't currently failed.

Al I had a bad experience at Central Florida Choppers. Took mine in for the 5k and warranty/recall shit. Got it back and the side covers were missing bolts and falling off, the jam nuts on the throttle were loose, the clutch was slipping, the accelerator pump was backed off so far I almost dumped the bike going through a turn in an intersection. Makes me wonder just what they did for the week they had the bike.

I was Full Throttle bound, you guys convinced me that this was the place to be. Let me know if you have a change of heart. Need to get all my recalls addressed soon, like in the next couple of weeks.

Best reply yet!

:flag: Gas Man you got right, it takes 2-3 years to get a Big Dog running right at least my son Andy took that long and cases of Bud Light. Here's to it! Pass me another Heineken. Woody

That's the time line I'm looking at. Hopefully this summer, 3rd season, with the re-birth of the Phoenix it will be badder than ever.

ok people, I'm getting confused again. Is BD replacing the VR or not? The reason I am asking is because today I just got my BD recall letter to bring in my 05 chop to have the VR replaced????? No mention about any circuit breaker or 40 amp fuse either. In summary, does anyone know what the final resolution is, if there is any?

I'm hearing that they're installing the "in line fuse" instead of replacing the VR.

Sorry .. added this after: The original fix was a replacement of the VR, but since then BDM has decided to go with the fuse solution.

I'm willing to bet if its not broke they aren't replacing it and you get a fuse. Obviously if it is broke then they are going to replace it.

But that is just my logicall guess.

Big Dog as a whole is a 2nd class group

I've met some really nice people so far but not many know which way is up, most of them are just repaeating what someone smarter than them has told them. Before 2500 miles It took me 7 trips to 2 different dealers along with several phone calls to stop my rear belt from squeaking. As a bonus each trip to the dealer entitled me to at least one new scratch free of charge. I love my bike but it has not because of quality or professional service. I knew I was fucked after the 1st 500 miles, I'm just glad I have the ability and resources to overcome most my problems myself. A special thanks goes out to this forum for helpful insight. The founder of Big Dog started the company because his HD was a piece of shit, I wonder what company will come as result of Big Dog. All I can say is to own one of these pieces of shit is like "I do for better or worse, until death do us part". You just hang in there for some unknown reason.
