Why such...jelousy?

Like some of the other members said everyone got a opinion. But to me all the HD bikes look the same. And if you try to fix one up to look like a Big Dog you`re looking at serious $$$. I just recently bought a Mastiff and so far its great. Like one of the other members said if you want to look like everyone else buy HD, its not the bike its all about the marketing!!

There is no way in hell a big dog is as reliable as a Harley Davidson. It's just not possible. That's some really poor advice.
Why would that be impossible? Would it not depend on the particular bike, how will it was maintained and how the owner took care of it?

Granted the BD have had some problems, but since it seems that most of the HD shops keep pretty busy in service, can not see why a BD can not be as reliable as a HD. Now the key is are they, not can they be!

I can say mine has done me fine and I do know some with HD that have had a hell of allot more issues than I have and most with allot less miles. In fairness there is many HD that seem to keep on going and going and I am sure there is a few BD that have done the same.

i cant beleive a k9 rides better than a street glide!!!

i have friends with k9's ,,,,they definetly dont say that.

there 2 different bikes
Well you are right about one thing, they are 2 different bikes.

I can put in a full day on my K9 versus my HD anytime. Still like the HD and respect others that have but prefer my BD overall. Go by what you know not what people tell you. This whole thread is just a pissing contest...again

Fuck the other forums  :D

My bad, I had a brain finger on keyboard disconnect aka "fart".... The intent was:
The reliability of "my" K-9 has been as reliable as the FXDWGI to this point. I would not hesitate to jump on the K-9 and ride across country. It's a great ride on the open rode.

Easy, less R&D, less miles ridden by customers, solid motor mounts, more power, inferior electronics..... They are the most reliable custom, especially when you swap out the wiring, but they just can't match HD reliability. I love my bike but I'm a realist.

Well I know that you love your BD as much as I do mine, and you make good points. Still I do think that BD can be as reliable as HD, they may not be now, but there is no reason that they could not be.

I will say that with the exception of the Glide Serie and the baggers, many of the HD riders I see seem to have not that many miles on their ride. Then again that seems to be the case for many motorcycle riders regardless of make, more riding to the local bar than enjoying the road like many do on here.

BTW how is that beautiful Chevy of yours coming alone. Very very nice and classic beauty.

Best to you

I respect anyone on 2 wheels, even a moped, because chances are if they could afford a bigger bike they would have one. I do have a few HD guys here in INDY that will not speak to me when I am at the HD dealership. Jealous in my opinion. One of the biggest reasons I bought a dog was because of my size. at 6'6" 300lbs, the HD felt like a scooter. I never realized how much power the dog had until this past summer on a trip when I rode my buddies HD and he rode my pitbull. I felt like I was riding a scooter. Very little pickup compared to the 117 CI. It was nice and soft though, but I just couldnt fit on the damn thing. He came back and said holy shit. You have got to hang on or it will throw you off. He was still amazed I was able to ride it 3000 miles that trip and 800 in one day. I was a little sore for about 2 weeks after that trip.

My first ride, back in 1970 a Norton Atlas. Then over the many years, numerous Harleys. I guess I saved the best for last~03 Big Dog-Pit Bull.I like the Pit Bull so much, I plan on buying another. Bang for the buck, can NOT be beat.

Disagree

I disagree... HD has it's share of problems also, they aren't exactly known for their dependability. HD riders will swear by their bikes just as BD riders swear by theirs. The S&S engine is one of the best, coupled with the Baker transmission (which is the gold standard for American V-Twins), that is a great bike. The propritary electrical system seems to be the only problem for the BD... if you have no problems with it, keep it, if you do have a problem, switch it out at the 1st problem and you'll have a dependable, reliable bike (as far as Americain V-Twins).

Just my opinion.... I loved my Honda's, I love HD but I love my Dog alot more than either. Although I do miss the torque and maintenance free aspect of my VTX1800c...

ps, m/c license for 26 years, riding for 33 (dirt bikes)... not a newbie to bikes.

Now, G22... as far as customer service. All of my service is done at Tampa BD, all I can say is I've never had better service or work done. These guys CARE about your bike and your happiness. My HD and other custom bike friends all say their NEXT bike will be a BD due to the service and hookups I get from Tampa BD! My only complaint is I don't have enough $$ to do all the work I want!

I guess it all depends on rather you want to stand out on a "sweet machine" or ride the same bike that thousands of people ride. I've had them all, and I'll stay with my K9. They all have there good and bad-it just depends on what you want. Big Dogs not the first to run into hard times-I guess the harley guys forget when they was owned by AMF.:flag::roll:

Good post.
Yesterday I rode with the local HOG Chapter. I went as a guest but I know 80% of the members. I brought my Big Dog instead of the Harley. One guy told me that I looked ridiculous riding a Big Dog among a group of 30 Harley's. I just smiled and said "How'z your Sportie doing?". I normally don't go around saying that people are jealous but in this case it was obvious. Furthermore, everyone else kept checking out my bike but nobody asked me anything about it except for 1 jackass. He told me that his boss had an 07 K9 and every time he rode it that parts would drop off the bike.

Your entitled to your opinion. I don't want anybody to think big dog is not a good bike, it is. It's just not as reliable from the factory or afterwards for that matter. Do you honestly think Raywood would've went through 5 speedos, xx starters, valve guides, etc if he was riding a 2005 Harley? Look at the reviews. Harley Davison ranks up there with Honda.

As for the ride on the K-9:

I went from a Heritage to a Street Glide to the K-9. I have no regrets and don't plan on going back (I like the ride and feel of the K-9).

I bought my Big dog as a second bike. Ended up selling my HD Ultra because I couldn't stop riding my K-9. One thing I notice is that wherever I park its always the Harley riders coming over to gawk at my sweet ride.

I'm not sure it's jealousy - in most cases I think people just love their bikes - go to any forum and you will find an on-going discussion of how great the bike is and why it is better than others. Some people like Honda's, some like HD's and some like Big Dogs. I personally like Big Dogs the best but if I won the lotto tomorrow I would have an assortment from many different companies.

I had an 08 Ultra, and it was a way way comfortable bike. Here is my comparison story.

I have had my K9 since I bought it new in 06. My daughter (now 11) has ridden with me since the day I got it. She thinks she is the coolest when Dad pulls up to school and she can jump on the back of the back all the boys and their dads are staring at and drooling over. I bought an Ultra in 08 mostly due to my sister and brother-in-law talking me into it. I had ridden to Sturgis with 4 guys on Ultras when I was on my dog, and they were in much better shape than me after 820 miles in a day. I had also just had the voltage regulator go out on my dog, so I was ready to get something I thought would be reliable.

I took my daughter out on the Ultra, we did about 150 miles to my sister's town. I stopped, we ate, and I asked her what she thought. She procedes to tell me that the bike is "boring". I was mad. I asked her if she liked the comfortable seat and the radio. She tells me, "If I wanted a comfortable seat with a back and a radio, we could take your car." I sold the Ultra. I didn't like it. I hardly felt as though I was on a motorcycle at all.

Is my dog as reliable as a H-D. No. Probably not. It requires more TLC. Is a Z06 Corvette as reliable as a Tahoe. No. It requires a bit more care. I love my dog, I love riding. It is comfortable for us over 6' for sure. And I can ride up with my mostly stock bike into 1000 Harleys and heads will turn. They might be jealous or have brand loyalty and give me a load of crap, but it ok. I don't hate Harley or those that ride them. I also do not hate Ford Fusion drivers, I just never notice them. Get the point?
