Let it Snow, Let it Snow-NOT

Damn, I get up before 4 am this morning, no precip, at 4 am it starts snowing, right before 5 am hit the road for my 120 mile commute; snowing like shit.

Slowly make it to the Interstate and it sucks, barely see, slippery as hell, finally I say screw it after about 20 miles and hearing the radio of all the mess on the roads east.

Take almost an hour to get back home and must have about 2 inches by then (less than 2 hours of fall). Park it and call in telling, no go today.

I like snow, it is pretty, looks nice in pictures and on post cards, allows one to share memories with the kids playing in it, helps keep folks at the local ski resorts employeed and off the welfare line, but enough is enough when you need to get to work and/or have to get the shovels and/or the snow blowers out.

Off the soap box and I guess I should be thankful that I am salery and not hourly or more important even have a job since so many others are haing hard time due to economy and recessions, but for today F the snow.

A safe and joyus New Years to all and may all and all your loved ones and friends see better days in 2010.

Yep here in Western NC and we got another 3". We had 13" that was almost gone. I am ready for the good riding weather "now". Guys up north are saying welcome to our world like this every winter.

Hey Fibersnake, now you know one of the reasons I moved south to the beach. Got tired of shoveling snow and trying to get to work surrounded by idiots on the roads in 4wd that didn't have a clue. I can almost ride everyday although its been cold here the last 10 days or so. Anyway best to you and yours, stay warm and drink one for me while I'm stuck at work today....

I hear ya Fiber.....I remember last winter when we got a foot and a half of snow,,,I had to drive 40 some miles to work...thats one way...I do have a 4 wheel drive truck so I didn't have any problems...but its a pain in the ass...at least now I am only about 8-10 minutes from work!

It is supposed to get up to around 40 tomorrow afternoon. Maybe enough of the snow/sleet/frozen rain crap will melt so I can get in the first ride of the year, but I am not hopeful.

That would be nice for sure, but I have a feeling due to the temp tonight and the precip today, there will be too much ice in some spots to make it worth the try. Worse it is looking to be below average for the next week or so not real optimistic, maybe within a couple of weeks we can get a decent day or so.
