Getting Nervous!

I have talked with a few dealers in search of a K9 and I have been told that BDM and Mr. Coleman are taking a preventative approach by trying to find investors to partner with to help along the company. And that the dealers are confident BDM will make it. I have been told that the doors to BDM are still open and that they can order 2010 bikes. The bikes may not be readily available since staff and production have been downsized but a 2010 can be had. I see that new apparel is being advertised on the BDM site along with many dealer sites. Just what I heard....don't shoot the messenger. :)

A week or so ago there was a post where Biker Babe and Raywood were talking about buying bikes directly from the factory. i thought about it and emailed Brian in Big Dog sales and asked him if he would directly sell me a bike. I said I was interested in any new 2007 or 2008 models that were returned from closed dealers. He said he could if I lived in Kansas or I did not have any dealer near me. He also sent me a list of about 15 to 20 bikes from an 06 K9 right through to a 2008 mutt. I told him I lived in NJ and we had three dealers. The next day I get an email from my nearest dealer. He quoted 27K for a new 06 K9, 27K for a new 07 K9 and 22K for a new 08 Mutt. Does this sound like a company that wants to keep going?

Those figures came from that dealer not Big Dog. Big Dog won't sell direct to you cause its not fair to the local dealer. If the dealer near you can get off the old (All or Nothing) Mind set. You might get Big Dog and the dealer to work together.
But I agree, they bumped there heads on those prices.

No need to panic, if BD goes under, there are thousands of bikes out there already. Someone will pick up all the proprietary stuff, and the bikes can be serviced by pretty much any mechanic. I never recommend dealers for non-warranty work anyway, mechanic turnover is too high and training is usually low. Find a good local guy, working out of his house or a small garage. These guys usually have been around forever, and can figure out pretty much anything, at much more reasonable rates with more passion for what they are doing. Let's hope BD sticks around, I hate to see any American Company go out of business, but there isn't much we can do to help out so all we can do is wait.

yea my wife just went in there and Rose Mary told her BDM was going out of business (don't know if I would advertise the fact to a customer). So saying their nervous is an understatement. The HD side will pull the dealership through. I echo asking for Al...good guy!

Another round please
Everyone thinks they know something but no one knows nothing except Colemen himself. This is all Enqiurer magazine talk. I hope they make it and we should all pray they do. And if they don't, then they don't. Our bikes won't be worth shit unless they do. Even though they aren't worth much now. So ride the piss out of them and have fun.

I was also planning on another Dog in the new year. I love these bikes and am saddened to see this happening.

I love my bike and hope BD stays in business for many years to come so others can share my love of these bikes. But like has been mentioned the economy is in the crapper and the craze for these bikes is slowing. Dealeships are closing from cars, trucks, bikes, and outdoor equipment. The government bailed out the Big 3 and the airlines have had their hands out for years. I am sure Mr. Coleman has some smart people behind him helping to figure out how to pull through this.

BDM Tampa was beating those prices, they can't currently sell in state (unless it recently changed), but they can sell out of state. Give Tank a call

Are any of our components, maybe other than the EHC, truly "proprietary" where we couldn't get them elsewhere, should the 'unthinkable' happen and BDM does go under (and I hope and pray they DON'T!)..?? Better to be prepared!

The website was updated with 2010 models yesterday. Unfortunately, new Bikes are not where the profits lie. The real profits occur in the Aftermarket sales, which BD has missed the boat. I personally have made a few minor mods, but we only can make a few. I am sure opening the BD website to purchase online has helped some, but this was long over due. Anyways, I still love the dog.
