How about every BDB forum member "invest" $2500.00 (cash) and we all become part owners?
This would be like buying a share of the company and over and above the investment in the pup.

If the company went public, would that really help this situation out?

I don't know why Sheldon doesn't go public. Who better to tap than an existing customer base for some private bailout money in exchange for stock in the company?

Right before H-D went public (1983?) they offered 1,000 shares of stock to all HOG members at $3/share. At the time, I was pretty strapped for cash and my son was on the way, so I had to take a pass. Bad move on my part, in retrospect...I should've done whatever to come up with the cash, then sold at its peak about a year and a half ago! :bang:

i assume they do not offer this to the public due to the larger sums of money needed as well as the duration of the investment. in this situation a initial investment may be small but I am sure they will eventually need more. if they use private investors with unlimited resources this gives them the ability to plan ahead and not have to worry about the financial risk, since they have the money from that investor with the unlimited resources. it seems like the owners plan is growth and expansion into foreign markets, as well as new product development. while doing this he still needs to maintain what product is already there, new orders, "warranty issues"(a serious financial strain!!!!).... operating expences and making payroll for what employees he currently has. all this with dealerships worldwide closing & little to no sales. to do this requires unlimited resources. you want to be able to go to your investor and say, i need ??? sum of money on this day for this reason, and not have to worry about getting it. he is going to need an investor or investors with that type of financial position and a true passion for the company and motorcycles. to share in a vision if he wants the business to survive using investors. if he gets some bank that does not care, all they will do is try to liquidate the brand for a quick buck, and then go one to the next project.

The article is interesting and scary and hopefull. Though the one comment at the bottom of the article says "Big Dog is Toast" "Say good bye to a good brand". I pray not!

.

My initial thought was that they need to somewhat follow the Big Bear strategy of producing a lower cost model. Less chrome, flat paint, smaller engine, under 20K. However, my second thought is that it's not enough. Unfortunately, this economy is just the beginning of a new world order that will leave most middle class Americans in a position to not be able to afford luxury items. I believe the Big Dog demographic is this group. It doesn't look good.

Only till we get a republican in office to lower taxes ect. Obomba is killing the middle class and small business. BDM will be fine.
