Should i buy my bike back as salvage???

I have a 2008 Ridgeback with 1200 miles, 3 weeks ago i was hit by a car. Insurance totalled the bike out. Damage is.....needs complete new front end forks/wheel/both triples/headlight/blinkers/front fender/fender brace and fender struts, tank has 2 small dents, both foot controls are bent, exhaust is rashed. Frame looks good, does not have any paint peeling, no bends or kinks.

They are offering it back for 10k, i pretty much made up my mind about NOT buying it back since they want to turn my title into salvage as well. If anyone is interested in bike let me know. Im posting 2 pics, before and after accident.

10 K for a totaled bike seems high,, it will always have a salvage title.. no resale value,, good parts though.. but for 10K you could buy alot

I would be concerned about the frame also.

Another consideration is how difficult is it to obtain a salvage or new construction title in your state. Some states it would be difficult.

Best of luck and glad you are still among us.

Hope your alright...:2thumbs: looks like it would be a labor of love to get it back into shape....if you bought it back. if you let them take it for salvage, make sure you get all the extra's off so when you get another dog, you can customize it because i dont think they will pay you for them.

Im ok, well i got a broken foot and a nice scar on my face. They are actually covering all of the extras, salvage process here in NY is not too bad but it is time consuming. To put it back together would take a few hours if the parts were there. Im just not sure what the bike will be worth once its fixed with salvage title, plus its a lot of bad memories at this point. I have a 08 softail chopper with 250 tire on it so i might just stick with that.

10K is way to high for a salvage bike .Have you figured what you would have in it complete . Market is pretty soft .

Bike

Market is terrible right now which is major part of the reason im letting it go
On the other hand you know that bike . If I was going to purchase a used one I would just keep the one I know the history on .
I have bought ,fixed and sold several builders (AUTOS) . Some turn out great and some I wish I would of never bought .

I own WRECKEDBIKES.NET and deal with damaged motorcycles every day,it will take some $ to fix it right, plus like i said i already have a 08 250 softail. I assume with salvage title this bike would be worth about 16-17k once its fixed. I just want the bike to go away, was my fav bike out of all harleys i have owned and it was my second big dog.

Not to tell you your business but
I don't think the bike would be worth that with a salvage title.
There is a 2008 ridgeback in Phoenix for $18500 with almost no miles and the guy cant sell it. Another 2008 on ebay that isn't selling and re listed twice.
I say salvage at $13k and as is about 6k looks like motor and trans/ primary are about all thats good on it.

Roman. You’re in the salvage biz. Would you honestly pay 10g for a wrecked bike? Then ask yourself, would you buy a refurbished bike with a salvage title for 16 to 17g? I think not.

Couldn't agree more! Bought an 07 last year for 18k. with 11oo mile on it. NOT with a Salvage title. NO way could you get more than 12-13 out of a salvaged Ridged:loony:. I'd say the guts are the only good thing on that ride. I wouldn't give more than 6 or all. I'd tell them to stick it.

I was more talking about spring time. I actually just saw a Big bear chopper sled go for 14k with damage all over lol. I will probably be at the auction where my bikes goes through, it will be funny to see what that thing does.

I seen that red bike in Phoenix, im amazed it wont sell for 18k, im not buying the bike back, besides bad memories i just cant see it financially.

Roman, I think this is a good call on your behalf. If you have a bad memory or you have a reservation about doing something I believe its a message from a higher power to just walk away until something better comes along......

As a dealer I would buy this bike in a heartbeat. I would fix it and ride the piss out of it.:2thumbs: But as a consumer I would pass. The labor cost, retail parts cost. Average retail cost of the unit. Pass.

RIDE IT HARD!!!
Hard to tell from the pic. How hard did you hit? Did it flip or just lay over after the fact? It looks like the frame, motor, trans, wheels and most of the high $ items are in good shape. Price all that stuff out and see if it is worth the effort. If repaired right it should be as good as new. But if the memories are too bad....move on.

In a tough economy a non-damaged bike can be had for a good price--prolly less than the cost of the purchase and repair of your bike and it won't have a salvage title.
