On the oil filter that S & S is suggesting and comparing it to the HD filter, which one of the HD filter are they using as a base. HD has verious filters and the typical 77a used to meet the 30 micron rating.
Also I just looked on the S&S tech pages and did not see where they say HD Evo style not being good enough, just see them talking about 10 Micron and 30 Micron and the 10 being for the Twin Cam. To the best of my knowledge the HD 77A was designed for the Evo style engines and are rated for 30 micron, though I could be wrong.
When looking on the S&S sight all I see is a listing for 84 and up Big Twin indicating filters smaller particles, but does not give a break down.
Though there are many good filters out there, with proper oil change intervals and maintenance, to the best of my knowledge there is absolutly nothing wrong with the HD Evo style 77A filters and have been used on many S & S for years with no issues. Key is to change oil and filters routinely and not get to fine a micron rating such as the newer HD Superpremium rated at 5 micron.
