k9 air ride problems???

well i took my k9 in for some warranty issues and one of them is my air ride isn't holding pressure very long. i checked all the fittings for leaks with soapy water before i sent it to be repaired and everything looked good. i got a call yesterday stating that it's looking like the shock is leaking and slightly bent. bd corporate told my dealer i had to hit something to do this. i didn't hit nothing and there's not any marks on the shock or anywhere near it, even my dealer agrees it wasn't hit. bd doesn't want to cover it under warranty and they only offer 90 day warranty on the shock. well to put it mildly, this is fucked! a replacement is 600 bucks and no one can even tell me what caused this:bang:. bd said if it wasn't hit it must have been ridden without air, wrong. i don't ride without air,never! i told them if i wanted a hardtail i would've bought one. does anyone know what would've caused this?

No idea what might have caused this, and I never heard of any BDM parts only carrying a 90 day warranty. You may need to call BDM direct and check this, if you can get someone on the phone.

There is a guy on ebay "shovelheadkicker" I believe or "bigdogpartsking" (same guy) who sells used factory BDM air ride systems for less than they want for just the shock.

The other thing you might want to look into is if you have a hydraulic repair shop in your area, see if they can possibly repair the shock and if they warrantee their work...just a thought.

I went through the same thing man. I hope you are able to avoid it but, long story short... 90 day warranty on parts and I paid another $600 bucks for a new shock.

yea it don't look good for me. i'm wondering if it's 90 days because it's dealer installed and not factory installed. my biggest bitch is if i spend the 600 plus labor to get a new one and it bends another one. i'm just trying to find what caused it to bend. it would've been nice for someone to tell me it's only 90 days before i bought it, atleast i could've looked at other options.

the spacers on the shock bolts are supposed to spin freely without much effort. otherwise the shock binds.

check it out. could be install error.

My air shock was leaking air past the piston. Not a lot but about once an hour while riding I would pump it up a little. I sent it back to Works Performance and had it rebuilt for less than $200. On the rod end of the shock body you will see a small hole (or filter). Spray soapy water on it and see it bubbles up at all. If it does your shock needs to be rebuilt. If not, check the rest of the system. Also, on the pump itself, there is a filtered intake screen. If it is leaking there, your electronic check valve could be the problem. Hope this helps.

I bought my whole system from bigdogpartskingpin on E-bay for $500.00 minus the air gauge and line... send him an e-mail.. Also on a related note.. I rode 200 miles with no air in the syst due to a broken release solenoid.:bang: here is a link, http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/general/5183-air-ride-failed.html I repaired it with a nice modification IMO and have had NO problems.. with 5-6000 miles + :2thumbs:

thanks for the replies, but it's still @ the dealer since last mon. i spoke with them tday briefly and noone really had any news for me. my guess is there probably gonna have it for another week because noone even got parts yet. one thing they did tell me is.... i should look into getting a second bike because this fucking thing lives at the dealer.

Wow... that sucks! I guess you could buy a Furby......:lol::roll:

Hope you get shit ironed out. I fortunately have NEVER had mine to a dealer, but I have had to replace a VR on mine with only 4k on it....but shit happens. :2thumbs:

lol no furbys here!:roll: it's still under warranty thats why it's up there plus i usually add a few things when it goes.
