Big Radius baffle removal

I just cut my stock baffles to 4.75" and really didn't hear that much of a difference. I stil hear that rattle sound when I throttle up. The bike is tight so I'm sure it's still from the stock baffles. I already had the decel popping with the stock baffles, so I didn't see a whole lot of change there. I hate to lose too much back pressure and I want the sound of "no baffles" so I may try the BCT baffles and try to get the best of both worlds. Not worried about the neighbors. Just want that sound. "The sound of Little Boo" thread was sick. I guess you have to pay to play that tune!!!!

My neighbor pulled the baffles out of his Big Rad pipes on his 2005 Chopper and it sounded like crap in my opinion.

Sounded like a V-Twin Honda with a crappy set of open pipes on it with real bad decel pop!!!!

He got razzed about how bad it sounded by so many that he cut the baffles down a bit and put them back in.

Hey Jake, what did you think of the sound after your buddy cut and reinstalled the baffles? Was it better than stock BR's?

I personally think that the BR pipes sound good out of the box with the full baffles. Loud enough, deep tone and not any decel pop to speak of.

His sounded much better with the cut down baffles back in than without them.

I am a muscle car guy, so I like a nice deep tone that isn't obnoxious.

I pulled the BR baffels on my 05 Chopper, to damn loud and sounded like shit on decel, popping..blubber etc. Put them in the bandsaw and cut them in half, reinstalled and they sounded great with little or NO decel pop. :2thumbs:

I rode with the full baffles for a few hunder miles... pulled and cut them to between 4.75 and 5 inches. Put them back in and it sounds much better. A bit louder, no decel pop and A LOT better throttle response from 1000 to 2000 RPM.

I would do it again without a doubt!:up:

On the Vance Hines Exhaust, cutting the baffle at 4.75", is this the length that goes back into the pipe?? Or is this the length that is disregarded?

That is a good question. When you guy's cut down the baffles to 4.75" or 5" did you have to re jet your carb or change any settings. I know that if not jetted properly you can burn a valve so I am just curious about the jetting.

For me, there wasn't that much change after cutting the baffles. I did not have to change the jets, but I guess all bikes are a little different. I wouldn't think that a small amount of back pressure would require you to change out your jets. What jets are you currently running? I'm running a 78/33.

Bad Brad I get that all the time. I am a well known tournament angler around here and everyone gives me shit about always winning the big bass pot so that is the knickname they game me 9 years ago and it has stuck ever since.

I am running a .076/31. I am running the Big Radius Pipes and a Spike air filter. I ran a 33 for a little while but had bakfire out the exhaust problems with it for some reason. I have the stock cam. It is a 06 mastiff with the 117.

Those are the jets I was running before. I had a "cough" at about 70mph and changing out the jets cured that. I recently changed the cam out with an S&S .600. Even then, my jets still run fine with the 78/33. Good luck. If you have any problems after cutting them, you can bet that someone on this forum can help you figure it out. :cheers::eek::cheers:

Do you know which part number you ordered for your bike, I contacted Vance & Hines,
they stated they do not make a Big Radius 2:2 for the '03 Mastiff?

You need to call and talk to someone else.:job: My wife has an '03 Mastiff and she is running the VH 2:2. I'm not sure of a part number, but I'm sure they make/made them.

Ok I have had both 2 into 2 and 2 into 1. 2 into 2 sounded good and not much loss of power..

BUT when I removed the "1" baffle from my 2 into 1 it sounded like crap and fell on its face on acceleration. It was terrible all together..put it back in and it is staying there.
