I went to a biker rally this weekend. It was raining so bad friday that a buddy and I instead of riding bikes just took his exployer to the rally. When I got back from the rally I pulled my bike out to show my k9 to someone. the bike barely hit but wouldn't start.

Here is the weird thing or maybe these bikes just do this. When the bike didn't start the lights started flashing like hazzards lights on a car. Has anyone ever had this happen? My bike is a 08 K9 EFI. I turned the key off and tried to start bike again it made a small hit but wouldn't start. This time the blinkers wasn't flashing like hazzard lights. I just though that was kinda of weird. I am going to take my battery out tomorrow and just put a slow charge on it and see what it does then most likely buy a new battery. Oh yea another piece of info I don't keep a trickle charger on the bike. I've bought the bike new and had it since Nov 08.

The last time I rode the bike was wednesday and I rode in rain for a little over an hour. Then I have even washed the twice since then trying to clean the bike back up. My starter is also showing bare wire in a couple of spots. It has been like that since I bought it just haven't taken it to the big dog dealership yet to get that issue taken care of.

There are probably several hundred threads about batteries here and all the wierd unusual things that low/dead batteries cause. But every thread has one thing in common somewhere in each thread. When you're not on your bike, a battery tender should be. Batteries lose charge every day and without a tender, you'll shorten the life of your battery severely! :spank:

As for the lights flashing like hazards? I wouldn't worry about it unless it started doing it with hot battery.

SIICK!!!
dude...get a battery tender and keep your scoot plugged in when your not riding....when I was running the Interstate battery in my scoot....when it got cold out at night...sometimes my bike would stumble when starting and my hazzards would flash...it did it to me 2 times...last spring...then..I bought a Braille battery and no more problems.:whoop::2thumbs:
I even rode to Gas Mans house and back(85 miles one way) on just my Braille battery...then found out that my voltage regulator took a shit and was not charging my battery...we put in a new vr and now I am good to go! I always keep my battery plugged in a tender when not riding...
do a voltage check on your battery and regulator....there are some threads on this in the help wanted section

Spiderjason, I had this occur on rode trip after a day of rain the next morning when I tired to start the bike. Water had worked its way into the handle controls electric connection for the turn signal, etc. I used a can of air from auto parts shop. The high beams were on, so i took the left control apart. One squirt and out came the mositure, the bike started right up. Good Luck.

These bikes really should have been named Big Cats because of their dislike for water. Knowing that so many issues come up from riding in rain, I would limit my washing and not spray the bike down with a hose. Wet a towel and wipe in down, then dry it off and polish it up. Until you do something permanant with your starter wire, I would at least tape it up with electrical tape. They also make a thick rubber electrical tape that would probably work as a permanant fix too.

An extreme and expensive move for a dead battery on a bike that has never seen a battery tender??:job:

PS. I wash my bike all the time, I live on a ½ mile dirt road and have no choice. I haven’t had any electrical related problems yet. I also ride in the rain on a regular basis being in South Florida we either ride in it or stay home!!

I hear ya BB. South LA isn't much different......weather wise anyway. :D I try not to leave in the rain, but I sure have come home in it many a times. Makes my tach quit working for a day until it dries out. While I have the tank off doing some other work, I hope to resolve that issue with dielectric grease and shrink wrap.

Alright well last night I took the battery out of the K9 and put it on a battery charger. I had it on for about an hour then this Russian girl I've been talking to wanted me to come over. Needless to say I went over to her house and it really ended up being worth it. :D I'm still at her house but should be going home tomorrow. So, I don't know how long the battery charged for but the batterry charger I used is one of those that will shut off when fully charged. The charger says 2 amp but the digital read out said it was charging at 2.7 amps. I should be home tomorrow and will post what the verdict is. I'm pretty sure it is just the battery.

Ok, I put the battery back in my K9 after charging it and it started right up. My experience with batteries is after they have to be put on a charger they don't last for very long. Now this is one of those big dog AGM batteries and I never owned a AGM battery. What are your thoughts do the AGM batteries do better(last longer) after being charged? I rode my bike all labor day weekend and the bike started fine parked it after riding in the rain on Wednesday then Sunday the bike wouldn't start.

The only way to be sure is to check everything.
  • Battery load test
  • Amp draw
  • Cranking amps
  • Chargeing volts
