I'll try and make this short & to the point......
2008 Ridgeback
When I did my first oil change at 50 mile as recommended by S&S, I noted that in the manual & also stated by GasMan that 3 quarts was the proper amount. Just to be sure (having never done it before on this bike) I was curious what the level was from the Dealership. I positioned the bike vertical and used a wooden meat skewer (super thin dow rod) to get a reading. The manual states "the oil level should be visible at the bottom of the fill neck". Well, it's hard to tell just by looking down the filler tube, so I used the skewer as a dipstick of sorts, and marked where the oil level was.
I did the oil change with 3 quarts and new filter, then ran the bike at idle for a minute or 2 just to get the oil circulated through the filter, let sit for a bit and checked with my makeshift dipstick. Long story short, it took 4 quarts to get the level up to what it was from the factory, or at least what it was when I received the bike.
Any insight is welcome. I've done 2 oil changes so far (50 & 300 mile) and am ready to do the 500 mile service using GasMan's nicely detailed instructions. Both changes I used 4 quarts. Bike is running fine as far as I can tell, but I want to make sure of what I am doing.
Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
