2008 Mastiff - Trade V&H Big Radius Pipes for Stock Pipes

I purchased a used 2008 Mastiff last weekend and rode it home (1050 miles), which more than doubled the miles on the bike.

The Mastiff came with a set of of Vance & Hines Big Radius Pipes, which are just a little to loud for my taste. Unfortunately, the Mastiff didn't come with the stock pipes.

I'm hoping to find someone to trade straight across with their set of stock pipes for my set of Big Radius Pipes. I would expect the stock pipes to be in pristine shape, just like my Big Radius Pipes are.

I live in Wichita, so I stopped by the service shop here at the Big Dog HQ to ask about this. On a cursory look, the 2006 and later K9's as well as the 2007 and later Mastiffs all share the same pipes. We'd want to confirm a match for anything besides stock pipes from a 2008 Mastiff, but there are apparently quite a few bikes that share the same setup.

pipes

I have my stock pipes that have were taken off my bike before I drove it home in April of this year. I have road rash on my v/h radius, and needing another set. I will love to trade with you.

Welcome to the forum, don't forget to post your intro.

This will be a Great deal for someone! Usually the BR pipes are too quiet and need the baffels removed.

I'm waiting to hear back from one member who sent me a PM about quieting the Big Radius Exhaust. I'll look into that real quick and if it doesn't pan out, will make the trade.

Once I figure out if that option is a bust, we've got a deal.

I believe Vance & Hines offers a quieter baffle that is exact replacement for the BR. Look on their website to see:2thumbs: Sorry about that. I just revisited the V&H site and did not see a quiet baffle option, my bad. I swear I thought I have seen that on their site somewhere.

I called V&H this morning to ask about replacement baffles. They didn't have any options for the 2-into-2 Big Radius Exhaust, but did direct me to Big City Thunder as an option. I order a set of their QQ Baffles for the exhaust and will give that a try once they arrive next week.

This is the item that Ratman here on the forums mentioned, so they worked for him.

Do a search on how to remove the baffle from the set you have. It is a bitch and a slide hammer is required.

I Installed QQ Baffles Instead of Trading Exhaust Systems

I purchased a used 2008 Mastiff last weekend [snip]

I'm hoping to find someone to trade straight across with their set of stock pipes for my set of Big Radius Pipes. [snip]
Following up on the suggestion from one of the members here as well as from V&H when I called to ask about quieting the Big Radius pipes, I purchased a set of QQ Thunder Monster Baffles (specifically part # QBL1845) from Big City Thunder - Exhuast Dynamics. When I installed these, I trimmed the stock baffles down by a couple inches, so I could have both the QQ and stock baffles installed in the pipes at the same time.

I've been able to take the Mastiff out on a couple rides during the last half of the week. The QQ Baffles definitely take the edge off of the exhaust note. When it's idling, it's fairly quiet, but still has that deep rumble to it. I know it's not the standard direction people are trying to go, but I would suggest these baffles as something to try for people that are trying to quiet down the exhaust on their motorcycle.

The end result is that I'll stay with the Big Radius Exhaust now that I have the QQ Baffles installed. Thanks you those that sent me PMs about trading for their stock exhaust. I had placed something in the local section on craigslist, but didn't get a response and got my first offer here within 12 minutes of posting my offer.
