Hi guys,
A friend of mine has a Bourget low blow. The gas tank is spitting out gas from the cap. Its one of those caps that fit flush. He can't seem to get it fixed from the dealer, so I was hoping some of you guys might have a few ideas on what would cause it. Any help would be great,

Thanks,

Any chance hes over filling or its not venting right. Does it do it all the time or when the tank is full only? Has he tried a new cap? Does the tank have the baffle like thing in it that keeps you from puttin to large of a nozzle in it?:hi:

Also its not fuel injected is it?

Its doing it all the time, even when the tank is half full. He hasn't tried a new cap yet. There doesn't seem to be any vent hoses on the tank. Its not fuel injected.

Have you checked to see if the gas is coming from the gas cap or could the trim ring not have a good seal and gas may be passing where there might be a lack of adhesive? My wife has the flush mounts on her '03 Mastiff and never had a leak, even when filling to the brim.

I'm with everyone, sounds like the vent hole is clogged and the gas is pushing out where it can.

Not too much more to add that others haven't...well, cept maybe that's what Bourget meant by 'low blow'....:D

I'll keep you guys posted as to what ends up being the fix...... Thanks for all the answers. It should help us fix the issue for him.

Not sure if he called the factory. He had the dealer who sold the bike do work on it, and they are a Bourget service center. They fixed some other stuff, but not that. Which was actually one of the main reasons he brought it in. When all else fails, fix it yourself to get it done right.......

I have a flush pop up cap on my one off tank, and had the same problem, and it sucked. Anyway, the fix was to drill a hole in the bottom of the tank in the tunnel toward the front of the tank, and install a stand pipe to vent. Then on the bottom of the pipe where it comes out of the tank they put a hose on it, and plumbed it down to right in front of the rear tire for venting. Once that was done, problem completely solved.

Hi Reaper,
Doesn't that send gas onto the rear tire? Are there different ways to vent the gas tank? I know some have a air hose(sounds like what you are describing) and it seems others have a gas cap that is vented. Is it based off the tank, or the type of cap you use?

No gas comes out at all, just pressure, and fumes. If you can imagine the stand pipe that is tapered at the top, and the pointed end pushed up to the top of the tank in the front of the tank. I don't get any gas coming out of the tube, and it eliminated the over pressure issue pushing gas out around the cap.

Hey Reaper! Who did the actuall fab work on your bike? Oh and are you going to be around this or next weekend? I would like to do that ride weve been talking about. I think Aspen is game.

Hey Mikie,
Greg from Gateway Bigdog did it, he has another business where they fabricate custom parts for jet aircraft, they did all my fab work.

Unfortunately I don't have any weekends off the rest of this month, but I have at least one next month and I think two Sunday's, so lets get a ride together then. I will give you a call when I know which ones for sure. Will look forward to it.
