Fried EHC

Energy One
Well I finally got my bike into the shop and it was the EHC that was fried. My dealer said that the battery actually ended up frying the ehc. I had it load tested but they said it was good at the local oreilly's. Has anyone else had this problem?

Is it a AGM battery? (Absorbed Glass Mat)

These bikes MUST use a AGM style battery. You cant use a standard lead acid cycle battery because the vibration will eventually short the cells... and burn stuff up!

Be sure also, to buy a battery that is 300cca or more. The 270cca batteries are a bit too small. I run a 350cca Big Boar Battery in mine and LOVE it!

I just bought a Drag Specialities battery #2113-0012 for my 03 chopper. It's a drop in replacement with 310 CCA. What a difference! Highly recommend it. About $105.00, Good Luck

Make your life easier... just go get a HD AGM battery fro a softail and put it in. Lot less expensive than some of the other brands that you would have to order online, easy to get, and easy to warrenty.

I'm curious as to "HOW" the battery can "FRY" the EHC?

Or, was that just a good enough excuse for them to give for something they didn't know  or they didn't want to say :skep: why ?

:loony:  :loony:

I have seen a battery short a cell internally and take out a EHC. (happened to a Interstate Battery on my bike).

BDM made me buy a OEM battery in order for them to cover the EHC under warranty. Then about a month or two later I heard that BDM started using Interstate in their bikes for production.

Now I can fully understand that "if" the battery shorts, that it can take the EHC south with it, but he didn't say the battery "went" bad! He just said it was load tested by O'reilly's and it tested good. So I guess I'm a little confused here.....:lol::lol:

You may want to check your voltage regulator also. 05s & some 06s had faulty VRs and would short out and over charge and fry the ehc.
