Avons vs Metzlers

I have a 07 K9 with just over 23,000 miles on it. I have gone through 3 rear tires and 1 front tire. I am avg about 7500 miles per tire. Is this normal for avons? I do not do burn outs and I do not ride hard since my wife rides her bike with me. I was thinking of trying metzlers next. what do you guys think?

Anyon getting more mileage on the metzlers than Avons?

I'm a big Metzler fan so I put them on my 05 Ridgeback and they were no better than the Avons. Frankly I would use the tire you get the best price on.

the new rear Avon cobra 300 is a radial now, I just got one, and my 2006 K9 does handle better, and it is suppose to last longer ( I get about 10000 ), but time will tell. I just bought at moto outlet for $217.99 plus about $15.00 frt. 1-866-675-6602 also got front for $105.99 plus frt, frt for both was $25.00

I switched last rear to Metzler tire doesn't seem to be doing any better so far if you do get the Metzler you have to file down the ridge or it will rub on your belt

I think you need to get the bike off the lift it is sitting on and let the tire hit the pavement and then it will wear..
I have put three Avon tires on and I am in need of another at 13,800 miles total now...

That is a great price:up: I also notice a difference in the new Cobra vs Venom. I didn't know the Venom is a bias tire. The cobra is a improvement in my opinion.

Milage on tires is going to all over the place from one part of the country to another depending to on asphalt temp and what the material that the asphalt is made out of.

I put 6500 miles on my 2004 Ridgeback up in Michigan before moving to Florida and that tire still had 3/4 of the tread left on it. Just before moving to Florida I got my 2005 Ridgeback and I had to change the tire out because it was down past the wear bars at 8500 miles.

The asphalt down hear in southern florida is made out of sea shells. You can actually see them in the roads. They are very hard and very sharp so they wear tires alot faster. Plus the raods down here get up to very high temps as well.

So you really can't compare one guys milage to another, and one brands rubber may wear better than another on different types of surfaces.

I'll tell you though, Avons wear much better than Metzlers on these roads down here in the south. Metzler gets about 1/2 the milage.

I'm a big advocate of monitoring tire pressure. Were I work, we operate 28 container handlers. Drive tires cost $3,500 each. We get way more hours (miles) maintaining tire pressure than anything else we do.

I'm using Avon Venom but when I go to buy, I'll probably go with whoever is cheaper if I'm buying a whole set.
