finally

Energy One
i finally got my bike yesterday. i went for a short ride and did not realize how little power my honda 750 had big dog dang near threw me off the back when i let the clutch out. i noticed what looks like air valves on the rear shocks are those air shocks? can i adjust the ride by adding or releasing air? cant find anything about the valves in the owners manual. and what rpm should the bike idle at? seems to be idleing to fast.

ENJOY it and ride safe...It will take just a few hours to get familiar with the ride and then all will be good.

Air shocks are usually available as an "option" so unless you bought it with the option....a couple of members have installed this (good reviews)....

Congrats! If you're used to fuel injection bikes, a carb will seem a little "herky-jerky" until you get used to it. I'd been on EFI Harleys for a few years before I bought my '05 BDM Chopper. Same thing happened to me...on my inaugural ride, I waved so long to my wife with my left hand, somehow managing to crack the throttle slightly with my right and nearly got thrown off the back!!!:rolleyes:

What a disaster that would have been!! YEEHAAA!!!:willy_nilly::panic2::(

They're wild stallions with lots of "giddy-up", so hang on tight!!!:whoop:
Ride safe and ENJOY!!!:2thumbs:

900 to 1000 Rpm seems to work well. Glad you got your Bike !

Agreed on this statement.

Guys, he is showing a 2000 Vintage Sport. Pretty sure it was not an air ride system.

Are your shocks mounted under the bike or are they attached to the fender struts like a Dyna?

Not many Vintage Sports represented on here so the more info we have, the easier and more accurate advice can be offered.

Congrats on the bike

Would it be because of the choke? I've noticed when jetting my carbs that the choke didn't seat right and kept it open. Had to take it apart again and make sure it seated ok.

My mechanic said that 1000 is a good ideal.. i think the odometer flashes when it drops to low and starts to lug. I know there's a posting on here on how to adjust you're idle screw if necessary.. but it might just be the choke.

oh and i went from the shadow spirit 750 to a k9 1917... yeah.. so awesome.. that 750 was just screamin on the highways when riding two-up

*shrugs* im a garage tinkerer.. not much of a mechanic

shocks are gas charged and not user serviceable. found sticker while cleaning it. now any advice on what jets to start with to rejet carb? it ran sweet when i piked it up thursday but when i went for a ride on friday it hesitated all through the speed range until about 75 miles out it died. it would start back up go for another mile or two then die again. we think the jets the mech. put in were way to lean. im at about 7000 feet and its a s and s super g. i am just getting started with the wrenching on bikes so i hope i dont sound like a idiot with some of my questions.

I am betting the guy you got the bike from did not know how to properly start the bike.

Check your plugs and replace because they are fouled out.

Stop using the enricher, crack the throttle a few times before starting, close the throttle completely, crank for a few seconds, if no start then crack the throttle again and crank it over.

You will burn up the battery if you just crank and crank.

Let us know where you stand after that.

jets

i went to the s and s web site and found a chart that said the range of jets for a s and s super g for intermediate jet is .032 to .036 and main is .074 to .086. i put 32 and 74 and i am still seeing white plugs. three bike shops have told me the jets are way to big. how many miles should i ride to see a change in the color of my plugs? what are the stock jets for a 2000 vintage sport with a 107 ci and a s and s super g. stock pipes and no other mods that i know of? i ride like 10 miles and it backfires loud out the tailpipe and shuts off and restarts soon after. runs fine through all the gears up to 95 mph and died around 60mph.

Check the how to for checking your jets. But also try spraying your intake seals with brake clean and see if you have a intake leak. When you spray them with the motor running, if the idle changes you have a intake leak.

i have been changing jets around for a while now and am having no luck getting bike to run right. it runs great for a 10 mile ride stop and bs for about an hour then hard to start and spits and sputters and backfires while just cruising at any speed but calms down when giving it gas. ive tryed from 295/66 up to 33/78 and plugs are still white after shut down at higher speeds. bike is stock and im at 7000 feet+-. could use some advise. followed s and s instructions to set up after jeting.

still having problems with my dog. now it starts up (not easily) and as soon as it warms up ( like a minute) it dies and will not start back up ( no spark) checked coil seems to be fine (except for a crack in the plastic). it will start back up after it cools off completely and dies soon after. i sure could use some help.

i took the carb and the intake of and found that the gaskets between the engine and the intake were not in right. i fought for bout an hour to get them in right to stop the intake leak. hopefully i was successful. i tryed anouther coil and it starts up and stays running but wont idle. think that may be cause of the jets and carb settings being wrong while trying to get the motor to run richer fighting the intake leak. anybody know what part number or brand of coil came on the 2000 bd vintage sport or should i just take old one and compair.( no markings on coil at all). also i found a sticker on the frame that said what plugs to use partnumber brand and all bought some and would not even screw into hole way to big. what are good plugs to run in big dogs with the 107 ci?
