Brake light issue!

Hello,:hi: From Ray,
Is there an adjustment on the front brake lever to tighten it up? I have a 2004 Ridgeback and the Front brake lever has a little play in it and it causes the brake light to come on with the free play. I hope it can be adjusted. I thought I would ask the folks that know about these things as I am new to the Big dog experience.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice,
Have a Great Day,
Ray

that IS a good question. Anyone? I'd also like to know.

I'm thinking some air is in the system.

Thanks, so much ,

You are right on the money, add some Brake fluid (Dot-5) and bleed the system. There shouldn't be any play on the handle, or at least mine don't have any play and I have bleed mine at least twice, once when I change the wheels and once when I changed to a chrome Caliper. Be patient when doing this and it will all be good.

Good Luck :2thumbs:

I found the answer hopefully.

I called Travis at R&B's this afternoon, after I had put some fluid in it, oh, I will bleed it also. But my main concern was the brake light coming on with the free play movement, even as little as it was, the brake light was coming on and I was not touching it. Travis told me there is an adjustable axuater switch inside the assembly that sets the timing as to exactly when the brake light come on. I am fixing to go correct it now and bleed the front calipher too. It is raining here. A great day to take care of stuff like this. I might break some rags out and polish on it too.,

Thanks for the help,
Ray :2thumbs:

I asked a mechanic and he said rebuilding the master cylinder would correct the free play in the lever and the adjustment then might take care of itself. I will do it tomorrow. I bought the rebuild kit for $40.
Thanks everyone for your assistance,
Ray

You need to order a Master Cylinder rebuild kit from BD. Whats happening with your front break lever is the piston is starting to wear. If you don't get it fixed one day you'll go to pull the lever and you'll be kissing your ass goodbye.

I think the kit is around 40.00 dollars.

I was just reading old posts to learn more about my dog and came across this. I dont know if you fixed this but if i can help you great. Inside the brake assembly is a little allen screw you can adjust. The light is activated buy a magnent in your lever and a sensor in your control. If you look you can pull or push in this sensor so the distance is right where you need it to be. If your lights are coming on from the free play you just need to push in the sensor a lil and tighten up that allen screw when your done and problem solved. That is after you get the free play tightend up a little. Im betting its a bleed the brake problem.
